Shadow on chest XRay

I've got Rheumatoid Arthritis, and I'm on weekly Enbrel injections. I went for a routine chest xray a few weeks ago. Today I got a call at 230pm, asking if I could make a 320pm CAT scan. When I went in I said to the nurse that I didn't know I'd been referred and wasn't aware that I needed a scan. She pulled up my notes, and said it was a follow up from my XRay and was quite closed/evasive about it. I was a bit thrown by the whole thing, so didn't ask many questions. I could see the scanned handwritten notes over her shoulder, they were several lines long and all I could decipher was 'lung upper right shadowing'. I do have an uncomfortable chest at times, but I've never really thought too much of it.

Can anyone put my mind at rest? I'm a non smoker in my late 30s.

Hi. Just wanted to lend a bit of support, although I'm afraid i don't have any practical advice. My dh is also on weekly Enbrel injections - he takes his for AS (ankylosing spondylitis) but he doesn't have regular x-rays - I think quite surprisingly -. I'm sure if you are a non smoker at your age this is nothing to worry about, however I can appreciate your anxiety.

I hope you get your results and they put your mind at rest very soon.

Thanks for your reply, I appreciate it. It does seem surprising that your husband doesn't have regular X rays. My diagnosis appears to be RA at times, Ankylosing Spondylitis at other. Never really had a clearcut ddiagnosis. My hips and lower back have been fusing over the last few years, and a lot of other joints are bad. I've muddled along reasonably happily until fairly recently when I've become shattered all the time.

Thanks again for your reply. x

Well, being a non-smoker in your 30's is definitely in your favour! It could just be scarring from chest infections/ pneumonia/ pleurisy- have you had any of those?

Givesyouhell · 12/04/2014 23:33

Not that I know of. I don't think I've had anything particularly wrong with my chest before. It's just going to be a wait-and-see, isn't it!

I've emailed Rheumatology, and asked what the CT scan was all about. Hopefully they'll get back to me on Monday.

Thanks for the replies x

Flowers Givesyouhell I hope that you gets some good news soon. I know how hard it is waiting for results, and for some one to say "here's the problem, and here is what we can do".
