Is anyone taking two cerazette pills a day?

A collegue told me her doctor said she could take 2 cerazette pills a day for heavy periods. I had a telephone consultation with a doctor asking if I could do the same (I was prescribed this pill for the same reason, HEAVY periods) and I was told no. Which GP is correct?

Is your colleague overweight? That's generally why they would be able to prescribe two pills.

There are much better ways to stop heavy periods rather that doubling contraceptive pills

Titsalinabumsquash · 11/04/2014 12:40

I do, not because of weight, I'm an average weight for my height, but I'm extremely hyper fertile and I was getting non stop bleeding on 1 pill so they upped it to 2.

GetLeanOrDieTrying · 11/04/2014 12:50

Titsalina, does that work then? I get a lot of bleeding you see. Well, not a lot but it happens often iyswim.

OP, I was told if you're on the heavy side you need two

Handsup · 11/04/2014 12:54

No I wouldn't say she's overweight. Does weight have relevance? I'm 9 stone.
Out of curiosity which other methods are available for stopping periods nursey? Tits, do you take the 2 pills together or divide throughout the day.
This is my second period on this pill (second month of using) and although not too bad so far it's longer then usual and my usual symptoms of dizziness, palpitations, blurry vision, ringing in ears are coming back - apparently I'm not anemic though Hmm. These symptoms for me are directly linked to bleeding. No bleeding = Better quality of life (for me anyway).

It works for me, I have alternating months with 1 pill then 2.

Titsalinabumsquash · 11/04/2014 15:45

Sorry, I take them together in the morning so I'll have 1 month of 2 pills then a month of 1, then alternate every month.

NurseyWursey · 11/04/2014 15:53

Yes, sometimes larger people need stronger doses of medication.

Certain anti-inflammatory drugs can reduce blood loss mefenamic acid is one - helps with pain too. Tranexamic acid too.

But if you want to stop them altogether it would have to be a contraceptive, but I'd go with the implant or the injection and try that

softsmile · 11/04/2014 15:57

I use the implant for contraception plus cerazette pills to regulate periods. My GP prescribed it for three months which stopped periods, then wanted to take me off them, which made my periods heavy again. Now I get them from an online doctor (legit private prescription) who sends them to my home. If your GP won't allow it then that is an option.

GetLeanOrDieTrying · 11/04/2014 15:57

Nursey, isn't the implant the same hormone as cerazette?

NurseyWursey · 11/04/2014 16:01

Same hormone, different distribution/absorption

Some GP's recommend a trial period of cerazette then straight on to the implant, to minimise bleeding and put a stop to periods. I'm not sure how much this works but it seems quite a popular method.

Handsup · 11/04/2014 16:09

nursey unfortunately the tranexamic acid did nothing for my bleeding. The mirena I had taken out because it caused relentless bleeding. Apart from endometrial ablation I feel cerazette is my last option (I'm seriously sensitive regarding hormones) yet so far cerazette has been tolerable..that's why I was hoping to take 2..

OP posts:
NurseyWursey · 11/04/2014 16:14

Mirena is the coil though, have you tried depo injection or the implant before going for endo ab?

It is very annoying. I had heavy periods for weeks on end when I first had the implant, injection, pill. After 3/4 months on the implant it settled down and now I get a very light one every now and again

Titsalinabumsquash · 11/04/2014 16:14

Fwiw, Cerazette is the only thing that has worked for me.

I've had the Merina and fell pregnant which sparked a year of being seriously unwell in hospital.

Depo caused me to bleed heavily and I have a history of blood clots so I can't take a combined pill.

I can't do normal monthly periods and just rely on condoms because I get crippling endometriosis (which the Cerazette stops) and constant heavy periods I am prone to being anaemic so bleeding isn't an option for me.

Handsup · 11/04/2014 16:34

tits this is exactly how I feel - I just can't seem to 'do heavy periods anymore' because of the ill effects. Today my period is getting heavier with clots again. So disappointed as I had a few days of super light. How long did it take before your periods became lighter?
nursey due to my sensitivity with hormones I'm worried about having an implant or anything I can't physically take out immediately if I have side effects. I realise the mirena is the coil but that little stick turned my life upside down, I felt like a loon on it.
Would I be irresponsible to try the two at least until my period finishes?

OP posts:
NurseyWursey · 11/04/2014 16:41

You could you try the copper coil instead of the hormone one (Mirena) but sometimes coils full stop play havoc with periods.

I don't think it's irresponsible, just be careful. It's your body so it must be frustrating.

GetLeanOrDieTrying · 11/04/2014 16:50

Strange... After DD I went back onto cerazette which is when the irregular bleeding started. They said if the pill wasn't working then the implant wouldn't either.

I'm in nacrez ATM an it's better but not 'good' Hmm

Titsalinabumsquash · 11/04/2014 17:38

I went on Cerazette straight from having DS3 so I went for a year on it with no bleeding at all, then I suddenly had daily bleeding for a month solidly before the dr upped it to 2 a day and I've never had any bleeding since (an autumnal 6 months)

Titsalinabumsquash · 11/04/2014 17:39

*additional.

ilovepowerhoop · 11/04/2014 17:47

nacrez has the same active ingredients as cerazette

GetLeanOrDieTrying · 11/04/2014 17:53

Yes they're desogestrel aren't tgey. I also used desorex. That was better I think. I'm suffering from horrendous spots around my mouth tho Hmm

Em3978 · 11/04/2014 18:02

I have an implant and cerazette. One or the other on their own just makes me bleed constantly, both together is great, no bleeding, no pain, no endometriosis, no cyclical depression/migraines.

If the implant doesn't agree with you, you can get it taken out and the hormone is out of your system within a day or two. Thats why I went with it, I also react funny to certain hormones etc, this combo works great for me :)
