Dd has a mouth full of ulcers......I think.

Dd is 19 months and has been teething badly again for the past couple of weeks. Today she has been really whingey and not eaten much at all, very clingy (you know the drill!). Tonight I looked in her mouth and she has white dots all over the sides of her tongue. Now, I'm presuming these are ulcers caused by the teething. Anyone had similar with their Dc? Any wonderful methods for easing the discomfort? TIA

bonjela works a treat

HonorMatopoeia · 21/08/2006 20:17

Can't believe I'd forgotten about Bonjela! She lived on the stuff when she was little!! Thank you - I'll go and dig it out from the bathroom for tomorrow! Are ulcers common with teething then? I suppose it stands to reason that they would be!

White spots could possibly be thrush (can't say for certain without seeing it). I would advise you to pop down to your dentist to have it checked. Is she bf'ed?

HonorMatopoeia · 21/08/2006 20:20

No she's not bfed, infact she doesn't drink much milk from anything anymore. God, hadn't thought of thrush.

Thrush not serious but can be a bit sore. If you are registeredd with a dentist do try to get her seen. In the mean time try the teething remedies (they won't do any harm even if they don't help).

Thanks CoV
Would a dr do? I'm with a dentist but he is always completely booked.

Docotr should be able to recognise oral thrush (if she isn't bf'ed it is quite unlikely).

HonorMatopoeia · 21/08/2006 20:30

Think I'll nip her down tomorrow then if it looks no better. Thank for advice CoV, appreciate it.

Sorry to hear that your dd is poorly ,without wanting to worry you have you considered that she could have hand foot and mouth discease? I ask because dd1 had it sometime ago(dont worry she wasnt contagious when you came) and i know that it is pretty widespread at the moment .

HonorMatopoeia · 21/08/2006 20:37

Oh my God!! Kids at school are always getting that! Definitely off for an emergency doctors appointment tomorrow!

When dd1 had it ,it started with ulcers on her tongue and then in her mouth and a couple of spots on her hands ,feet, bottom. The incubation period is 3-5 days i think so you may be able to track down when she caught it,if she has it of course!

Beauregard · 21/08/2006 20:40

Hope she is ok?
If she does have it she will feel pretty rotten

HonorMatopoeia · 21/08/2006 20:42

Poor lass is obviously very under the weather Better keep her away from her little friends until I know for certain.
