Catherina, parents are talking about the behaviour of their children changing. But, I think you know that.....

tabitha8 · 05/06/2014 21:46

www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Mumps/Pages/Introduction.aspx

Good info about mumps on the NHS website.

CatherinaJTV · 05/06/2014 22:57

I know that Tabitha, but how would a vaccine do that?

And I am sorry that you are so scared SJRO - I wish I knew how to unscare you. There are all sorts of stories all over the place and as a mother (independently of the number of kids, I think), we always worry for our children.

SJRO · 06/06/2014 08:25

Sometimes I think Catherina too much information is not always a good thing.

sashh · 08/06/2014 21:22

SRJO

Something puzzles me, you said, "more capable of handling a vaccine like that" which I understand, but what about the actual diseases?

FartyMcGhee · 08/06/2014 21:30

It's not always autism that people are scared of. Why do people assume that?

SJRO · 09/06/2014 06:36

I agree the diseases worry me sashh hence me wanting to get single vaccines, no one wants to see their child sick and I think every mum would do what they can to protect them, thats what I am trying to do I just want to do it with the single vaccines. I want to be able to make my own choices surely thats not an unreasonable request?

FartyMcGhee I agree totally autism is just one of many concerns that have been raised with the triple MMR.

CatherinaJTV · 09/06/2014 22:54

what are the other worries then?

SJRO · 10/06/2014 08:51

Okay, as I said before I didn't want to get into a whole triple MMR debate, all I want to do is vaccinate my boy for measles with the single vaccine, and find a good clinic to do so.

Other worries, apart from the fact a child can get very sick with the triple mmr, (clearly not as sick as contracting the illness). How about the effectiveness of the triple vaccine is so poor they are talking of introducing a third shot, I know this is true as a child in my boys nursery contracted measles and he was fully vaccinated (2x doses). Merck have lied about the effectiveness of the mumps component and were I believe were fined (or at least taken to court) for doing so, what else have that manufacturer lied about? Health concerns: autism (of course - however more likely the trigger is the MMR in children that are already genetically susceptible), inflammatory bowl disease, meningitis/encephalitis, febrile convulsions, pneumonia, death.

CatherinaJTV · 10/06/2014 09:35

How about the effectiveness of the triple vaccine is so poor they are talking of introducing a third shot

That is only an issue for mumps. Non responders to measles or rubella after 2xMMR are very very rare indeed.

MMR as a trigger for autism

deader than dead horse

inflammatory bowl disease

not caused by MMR

meningitis/encephalitis

at least 1000x more likely from diseases than vaccine

febrile convulsions

You are more likely to die from measles than to have a febrile seizure from the MMR.

pneumonia

1 in 20 from measles - not a side effect of MMR

death

again, about 1000x more likely after measles than after the MMR (if at all)

SJRO · 10/06/2014 09:57

You failed to point out that every vaccine carries the risk of febrile convulsions, meningitis etc. I don't necessarily agree with what you are saying as I have found information linking bowel disease, links with autism etc. But as I said before its not a debate I wanted to get into, cant I just have the choice?

Wasn't the triple MMR initially introduced so your child had to have less vaccinations anyway? So then as the effectiveness is not as good as first expected, its not brilliant for the measles component and definitely not great for mumps cant a child just have the single shots?

gamerchick · 10/06/2014 10:04

Well there has to be somewhere you can get single jabs if that's what you want. There should be the option to pay for single jabs if you don't want the free mmr.

as long as kids get vaccinated all I'm bothered about.

It's just when people say it's because of autism.. like autistic kids are lesser beings or something it feels like.

TarkaTheOtter · 10/06/2014 10:05

"but again he is my only child"

Having a second child doesn't mean you care less about things. It's not like having a spare Confused

gamerchick · 10/06/2014 10:07

Spare kids Grin I admit I did chuckle at the picture.

SJRO · 10/06/2014 10:29

Thanks gamerchick. I paid for all my boys vaccinations anyway so its not like I am worried about paying for another one.

All kids are different and not one is lesser from the other. Even if mine does drive me absolutely crazy at times!!! :)

Anytime!

EssexMummy123 · 14/08/2014 23:13

There is always an option to pay for the single jabs, you may to travel to London or other cities. Yes the mumps vaccine has been unavailable recently but dear me, it's at best 70% effective and mumps in the large majority of children is a very mild illness. i'd prefer mumps over chicken pox anyday and whilst the chicken pox vaccine is a matter of course in America it's only available privately here.

I suspect that the UK vaccination schedule has a lot to do with the NHS budget.
