Hello all, trying to find some answers, any help very gratefully received as can't seem to find anything out!

I am flying to the UK for surgery in 2 weeks ShockShock
I have developmental hip dysplasia and am 36 with two young sons.

So- 1. Has anyone had the microplasty surgery (mini hip)? And what was your recovery time?

  1. Anyone had hip replacement surgery and gone home to two toddlers?!! Will I survive? Confused

I am totally dreading the entire thing and right now would prefer to stay hobbling but 'safe' if you know what I mean?!

Thanks Smile

I had a total hip replacement when I was 29 due to CDH at birth.
It was a Charnley.
I was in 7 days and went home to A 2 year old, a 4 year old and a 7 year old.
To be totally honest, after the agony of having practically a fractured hip for so many years, my recovery was an absolute breeze.
I'm now 51 and still going strong.

Do pm me if you want to know more x x

will try to post more later but have just had a minor (debridement of the labrum-small tear) about a month ago and i have two kids 20 mnths and 4. The worst bit of the recovery is very fast- i could put weight on it with only a little pain the same day as the op, only stayed in hospital for 12 hrs. It is quite important to rest most of the time in first 1-2 weeks so with little kids u need some support. i stayed at my folks' for first 4 ish days. it was still quite hard when i went home and i have my dh at home most of the time- not supposed to lift them , alot of stuff you do with them can make it ache, all the bending down etc. I would say again, get some support for at home in the first few weeks. The level of pain was really not bad at all- i have had a knee ligament replacement and that was much more painful. do all your physio! good luck, make sure they give you adequate pain relief to go home with- be a bit pushy if need be, and factor in that will probably hurt more after about 3/7 days as the anaestetic stays in your system a while, good luck!

Hi ladies, it's taken me ages to log back in to Mumsnet and then find these posts as there's nothing in 'I'm on' anymore...!

Anyway, thank you very much for the tips and words of encouragement. I am writing tonnes of questions about it all for my surgeon and then I may be back to pick your brains...

Thanks
