Anyone else been prescribed this for very heavy periods? It's not doing anything at all and is making me feel nauseous so just wondered if anyone else found it helpful?

Yes I take this and it works really well and luckily does not make me nauseous. I take 8 a day for the first 4 days if my period and it definitely makes it a bit lighter. That's really unlucky that it has not worked for you. I'm not sure what mnefamic acid does, but that may be another option for you.

I tried it and yes my periods were slightly lighter but they seemed to just be longer ,so instead of flooding for 4/5 days I was bleeding for 8/9 days . I eventually had a Mirena fitted but that's not been without its problems .

I find it makes my periods lighter but only for the 3 days I can take them. The rest of the days it is heavy but not as heavy and the duration is longer. Not experienced nausea though,

Im on them atm for heavy, constant, unexplained bleeding while they do investigations (couldn't cope with kids and work etc it was so heavy)
It has made my bleeding lighter but I am so sick too! Feels like early pregnancy again! What dosage are you on?

Thanks all. Am on 6 a day but although my last period was slightly shorter it was just as heavy. Had a mirena until about 6 months ago but not keen to have this again so I guess I'll make another appt. Glad it's working for others - it's not much fun every month is it Sad

I'm another it works for. When they were prescribed, it was made clear to me it doesn't work for everyone, and this was just the first step - the next thing to try would be a Mirena (which I wouldn't be keen on, because of how I've been on hormonal contraceptives in the past), and there are other things which can be tried after that, too. Which I think is good to know, as it's possible that as I progress through my 40s and towards menopause, things are likely to get worse first.

Good luck.

Thanks Ebearhug - good to know there might be other options. Tranexamic Acid was all that I was offered by the GP other than another Mirena of course - I think my doc has shares in them as she seems to keep pushing this option at me even though I had loads of trouble with my last one!

I would ask the GP to refer you to a gynae for further evaluation; something is causing this to happen in the first place and the GP seemingly has no idea. The mirena that was fitted has only tried to treat the symptoms (unsuccessfully) and would not address the cause anyway.

If GP is unhelpful see another one within the practice or change GP surgeries.

Heavy periods can be caused by fibroids so it is worth seeking specialist gynae advice.
