I have given up drinking and can't believe how much better I feel

I was only drinking a couple of glasses a night, but at the weekend once the baby had gone to bed I would drink half a bottle

was irritable, anxious and stressed and actually worried I had pnd

so I have had no wine for two weeks now and feel calmer, no more scratchy shouting at kids, my sleep is so much better, I can relax so much better, and can cope with three kids with a bit of energy! Can wine affect you that much?

yes i need to give up again, i have retoxed myself quite badly

Cappuccino · 21/08/2006 10:57

yes it can but I'm not as good as you

(sorry I didn't take you up on your tea offer last week but I ducked out of meeting my long-lost Bournemouth based cousin so couldn't ethically justify time out to meet a non-relation

had a lovely time tho'. Thought of you in Waitrose.)

expatinscotland · 21/08/2006 10:59

i think you should save the money you would have spent buying wine and use it to buy more Laura
Mercier cosmetics.

CountessDracula · 21/08/2006 10:59

I always feel a lot better when I give up. At least for about 3 weeks and then I find it boring when I go out.

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 21/08/2006 11:00

Well Done Enid!

(Hows the skin thing going by the way? was wondering the other day cause my GP gave me Yasmin - contraceptive pill and it has really done loads for my skin)

biglips · 21/08/2006 11:01

I really need to do this. The last time I did it I lost 10lb, the bags disappeared from under my eyes, and my hair defrizzed!
Cheaper than a make-over.
I find it very hard to give up the vino though.
The only way for me is cold turkey.

SherlockLGJ · 21/08/2006 11:07

GingerBear

I will if you will.

Enid · 21/08/2006 11:08

yes I went cold turkey

said I'd do it for a week to see if it made a difference and have been so impressed have carried on with it

I did have a sip of dhs on friday night and I am intending to drink in the future but not atm

I've just got a case of fruit wine in. A gift.

So won't be giving up anytime soon!

Usually only a glass a night, though.

A half bottle and I'd be legless.

Carmenere · 21/08/2006 11:13

I was ill last week with a sinus infection and I diddn't drink alcohol for 11 days and then I just had 1 beer or 1 small glass of wine of a night. I felt fab and lost a lot of puffiness from my face(at least dp said so). Then on saturday night friends came over for dinner and I fell off the wagon big time to the tune of 1 and a half bottles of heavy red wine. I still feel dreadful today(although that could be damson poisoning).
I am definitely going to stop the casual drinking I do habitually. The Oh I'll have a glass of wine at 7 and then by 10 you've had 3 and it's a Tuesday!
I've been thinking about it and I've come to the conclusion that my body can just not recover from alcohol like it used to.
I love drinking wine, I really love wine so I will not give up totally but I will curb my hedonistic, indulgent side as I think the poor old carcass just can't handle it anymore!

SherlockLGJ · 21/08/2006 11:15

Right

Carmenere you are on.

dinny · 21/08/2006 11:18

well done, Enid. I've been making a concerted effort to just drink on Friday and/or Saturday night (and not too much) and feel so much better on the days I haven't drunk the night before. so muc so am tempted to only drink on special nights out, just not have it in the house at all.

it takes a certain leap to get there, don't you think? I can't really imagine never drinking wine at home...

tribpot · 21/08/2006 11:20

Me too - I stopped drinking last week because of a tummy bug and can really tell the difference now that I've started again. Can't give up wine completely but can, and will, cut down massively.

Carmenere · 21/08/2006 11:20

Ok LGJ I know that you appreciate wine like I do so it will be the same kind of difficultySeriously lets cut down considerably so that we will appreciate it more when we do indulge!

charmkin · 21/08/2006 11:33

am on apricot ame ina wine glass. Is just habit of getting out non plastic cup and sitting down when tea won't do. Better than wine and no passing out on sofa at 9.45.

SherlockLGJ · 21/08/2006 11:34

OK

Some or none this evening ??

VeniVidiVickiQV · 21/08/2006 11:37

You bunch of lushes

Good for you Enid, glad you are feeling better

Carmenere · 21/08/2006 11:51

Totally up to the individual but I'm not intending on having a drink tonight. Now that said,
i may do, it depends but if I do it will probably be just 1 small glass.
Actaully the other thing I noticed that if I drink wine with food(as I often do) I tend to gulp it so as a test I am not going to drink wine whilst I'm eating. So I'll sip a glass either sid f odinner just not wash dinner down with it. unless of course I am either out for dinner or entertaining.

katierocket · 21/08/2006 11:54

It's amazing what a difference it makes to the quality of sleep isn't it. I always notice that. Sleep after alcohol is never as good.

Gingerbear · 21/08/2006 11:58

LJG & Carmenere, you are on. Cold turkey for me though, no other way. How about one week at a time, and see how long we last?
Off to supermarket this lunchtime to stock up on fizzy water, AME and aqualibra.
Carmenere, I too am a wine slurper with food.

Gingerbear · 21/08/2006 11:59

VVV, we are lushes and you luuurve us all!

SherlockLGJ · 21/08/2006 12:01

A week at a time.

Anyone up for a day at a time.

southeastastra · 21/08/2006 12:02
