fainting 13yo DD -please reassure me!

So 13yo DD fainted this morning before she had breakfast (in quite spectacular swooning style). She was pale and clammy, out of it for maybe 20-30 secs. Right as rain after 10 mins, no temperature. She said she had felt a bit sick and saw spots in front of her eyes before she "went".

DrGoogle tells me this is all fairly normal, nothing to worry about, probably low blood sugar or dehydration (the latter being particularly relevant as I'm always nagging to drink more). However this is a first so would be reassured by others' tales of swooning teens!

I would get her checked just be sure. It could be lie blood sugar, low blood pressure, low iron levels or maybe she's coming down with a virus.
My DD aged 10 doesn't drink much. I live in a very hot country & she has 2 icy poles a day to get some fluids & will drink home made milkshake. At school her water bottle comes home full.
Maybe get her to take a multivitamin everyday.

MyDD 13 has had this a couple of times. It is fairly normal, however probably worth just getting her checked by a doc to check iron levels etc. my DD was fine, just one of those things :)

Please take her to a gp and have her checked, I would ask for an ecg to be done, just to be sure. xx

Me and my sis used to do this as teenagers. Put is down to heavy periods.

It was a joke with my school friends! I was always fainting and my mum would be called to pick me up. Back then in the 70's you were quite well off if you had a car! We didn't.

With me it was mainly when I was due to start a period, keep a diary if it happens again and see if it coincides. Also as said have her bloods done and blood pressure, but that's proberly back to normal now.

My last fainting episode was about 18mths ago (I'm 56) and yes all the colour does drain from you and you can usually know when there going to happen. If she feels it again if poss at time get her to sit down and out her head down, get the blood back to her head.

Thanks for all your replies. No periods yet- maybe a sign they are imminent?

I fainted all the time in school assembly. I had to stand at the back rather than with my class, so that they could haul me out if it happened. There were several of us. Don't think anyone ever mentioned it to my Mum, she certainly never had me checked out! (Blase 70's parenting eh?) I think it was probably low blood sugar in my case, as I lived about ten minutes walk away, and I would stay in bed until the last possible minute, throw on my uniform and whizz to school, no breakfast. Then pass out in assembly.....I didn't have periods then , not until nearly 16, so they weren't a factor.

My daughter (19) fainted recently, for the first time. We subsequently found out she had acute Epstein Barr virus (glandular fever).
