Can anyone recommend a CBT person or something else to help DH?

My DH really wants to get some help for his anxiety. He gets stressed by the smallest of things and has lots of mini panic attacks (tightness in his chest, thinks he is having a heart attack (pulse often goes slower though bizarrely), twitches in his tummy). It makes it hard for him to function at work, although he does manage somehow. It's very unlike him and it's driving him mad. I don't think going back into his past to find a trigger would help as there really doesn't seem to be one, but I do think if he could think differently in certain situations he might not panic so quickly, e.g. he is ultra organised and as soon as something doesn't go exactly according to plan he gets really stressed (like someone being late or mess in the house, which happens a lot with two young DCs).

I said I would post on here to see if there are any recommendations - for a CBT person who can do sessions by phone or one in Yorkshire? Or anything else that might help him?

Thanks, he's had and ECG and all normal so I think it is anxiety related. I might try and get him to go back to the gp though as he never mentions the anxiety. Not sure if they would actually be able to help though.

Great that he's been physically cleared.

Sounds like GP needs to refer him to your local primary care MH services (depending on where you are these might be mental health link workers or IAPT who should be able to offer CBT) GP may be able to prescribe something for the anxiety, as and when needed, in the meantime. Alternatively could check out some self help CBT online.

Good luck!

He should definitely go back to the gp and talk about his anxiety. There is a lot the gp can do to help, as well as ruling out any other cause for the physical symptoms. If it is anxiety then there are various meds that can help - either antidepressants or beta blockers (they don't affect your mood as such but help with the physical symptoms).

You can also access various therapies, either directly through the gp or quite often now by self referral to a counselling service, which the gp will have the details for. Counselling doesn't necessarily mean going back to your past to find a cause - taking therapy can be an option but cbt is the normal course of action, and many areas now also offer mindfulness courses as well. I'd highly recommend both. If you haven't come across mindfulness this site has some good info.

If you want to find a private therapist in your area then there is a register of accredited practitioners here.
