Or do I need permission from my GP to have a copy?

You don't need permission. They can charge you for photocopying

cakeymccakington · 04/04/2014 20:30

no, you are entitled to any medical records/info about you

KatyMac · 04/04/2014 20:37

Ithought so

The receptionist or nurse & I had words as apparently I need 'permission'

I have always been told that The doctors permission is needed before they can issue me with them. it's always been OK actually and I have got them. however, I plan on my next visit to ask at my consultation for him to print off the blood tests. If he doesn't like it well it's tough... I want the ones going back to 2011 as I want to try and track my decline if I can whilst being told all was "normal"

PoshPenny · 04/04/2014 20:45

I wonder if it is just so that yr doctor gets to know you're asking for this kind of stuff?

KatyMac · 04/04/2014 20:45

Yeah - 'cos they are always bloody normal aren't they

He told me to get them (he wants me to compare them to my brother's who lives in Sweden)

Under the Data Protection Act, you results are your data and you are fully entitled to a copy, or to have the figures verbally.

Knowing this has been of tremendous help to me. I now have a spreadsheet with all my results going back to 2006, which helped me to pinpoint a decline that doctors looking at one set of results at a time on screen had missed completely.

There shouldn't be an issue with getting this information, but you might have to be firm about it.

Yes - If I don't get immediate co-operation on Monday morning - I think I might start to be a pain

I've got an under active thyroid and the GP always shows me my blood results. My consultant always gives me copies too.

KatyMac · 08/04/2014 20:24

GP printed them out for me straight away - he was surprised I didn't have a copy already
