What would cause a bright red, hot cheek in an otherwise well 3 year old.

Been sent home from school with a hot, red rashy cheek.
It isn't allergies, he has a nut allergy so I gave him his medication just in case, there is no improvement though.
Pharmacist said maybe slapped cheek but she said it was unusual on just one cheek and he would be feeling ill too. He is bouncy as ever.
Any ideas? Supposed to be having child free night tomorrow so want to get him sorted ASAP.

When I remember it going round nursery the children were ill, lethargic with flu symptoms and rash elsewhere too.
Phoned the doctor who said it was unusual but not impossible to just have one red cheek and no other symptoms.

My first thought was slapped cheek too. My DD had it on only one cheek, my DS had no flushed cheeks but a very strange rash on his arm, just like someone has used a piece of lace as a stencil. Both accompanied by mild cold like symptoms but not to the extend that they appeared at all unwell. I seem to remember calpol did the trick and it was soon over with. Good luck

That's good to hear dipping he is running round outside at full speed so think he is feeling fine although he's telling anyone who will listen he is "berry berry poorly and needs to go to hospital"
Anyone know if it's likely my other DC will get it too? DD 13 is unimpressed and is refusing to be in the same room as him.

DS get a very red cheek when he has an ear infection.

The pharmacist said ear infection might be a possibility Forty he hasn't complained of earache so far though.

I thought teething was over, I guess it could be a possibility then.

It could be slapped cheek, also scarlet fever is more common this year. DS had a temperature and lethargy (for the first day anyway!) with it but not many other symptoms.

3 year olds can be bouncy even if ill though. I think you need to see the GP and ask them to do a swab test.
