To have Prevenar vaccine for your 2 year old....would you? At first I was delighted that my GP offered my DS the jab, but reading about it and the safety issues and also whether it is necessary to stick yet another vaccine into my child...I dont know what to do.

My personal opinion is yes definately, for me the potential risks are always outweighed by the benefits.

yes!!! There are several mumsnetters who have lost their children to pneumoccocal meningitis. Not to mention the wonderful side effect that it has of reducing ear infections. My ds had severe ear infections with every cold until he had the prevenar vaccine. It has been available and mandatory in the usa for many years, by the way. It took so long to be available in the uk simply because it is a very expensive vaccine.

Yes, like a shot. Am going to ask my GP about it today. Pneumococcal meningitis is a horrific disease.

Spongebob · 18/08/2006 09:36

I know a vaccine for this terrible illness is long overdue, I just keep reading such scary things about it. \link{whale.to/a/vaers.html - 8k - this}

I would (ds2 had 2 doses and is waiting on his 2yr pnuemovax), it's not worth risking meningitis.

LaylaandSethsmum · 18/08/2006 12:58

Spongebob, the whale to site is a very anti vaccination site in general and doesn't give a very balanced view. You will take a risk wether you vaccinate or not. This website gives info from the NHS ( pro vaccine) pov have a read
