Bloated stomach

I have just searched my name and health topics for this year and I am embarrassed how many times I have posted on this topic, often with symptoms of my own. But, I can't find any reference to this, so feel justified in asking:

I have a horrible, bloated, sore feeling in my stomach, not for the first time. It doesn't appear to be anything to do with the bowels (not trapped wind/problems going to the loo etc). My stomach is big, it feels very tender on and off, I don't feel hungry, etc. You kow that advert on tv for activia where the woman refuses the offer of something to eat because she feesl so bloated? Well, I feel the way I imagine she does.

What is it? Does anyone else suffer from this? It comes and goes, and doesn't seem to be afecting my health or indicative of anything else so I dond't want to go to the GP. Anyway, I have had countless tests done for all sorts of vague symptoms in the past and they have all been clear. I don't want to appear a complete hypochondriac! At least not to the GP - I am sure you have already formed your opinion!

Anyone?

DG, when you say it comes and goes, is it tied in at all with your menstrual cycle do you think?

I 've had this. Then had a really bad tummy bug in holiday last year and have taken probiotic supplements from Boots since and seems much reduced.

try avoiding cheese, bread and eggs

DumbledoresGirl · 16/08/2006 16:02

Marina - I haven't definitely made that connection but it has occurred to me. I am not due another period for 7 days. Would that fit anything?

Avoid cheese, bread and eggs and take probiotic supplements? i do sometimes wonder if I need more fluid or fruit or something to make me feel less fat and bloated but if I start a regime, the symptoms go away but then they go away also even if I do nothing. So i am not sure if anything is related.

I ask because I quite often feel bloated and tender around the time of ovulation DG. That makes it a bit late in the cycle to apply to you, if your cycles are textbook-type.
I hope you get it sorted out

DumbledoresGirl · 16/08/2006 16:06

Well who knows re my cycle Marina. Last month I was 4 days late and got so paniskced I bought a pg test! I am that certain age where cycles might start to lengthen so I cannot be sure exactly where I am in my cycle - just to add confusion to the matter.

Well, that could be it then.
There is even a term for it: Mittelschmerz.
When I get it, it really is quite uncomfortable. And that would tie in with yours disappearing again regards of what remedies you try.

Hmmm, maybe not. Thanks for telling me the name - as a student of German is simply mean middle pain! I have googled it, but I am not sure if that is what I am experiencing. It is likened to appendicitis! Gosh that must be awful! My complaint is more bloatedness and tenderness than anything I would liken to the pain of appendicitis.
