The normal coil!!!

Following on from the Mirena coil thread, what are folks experiences of the normal coil?

I have had very heavy periods since mine was put in but no migraines (which were always down to hormones anyway). But I have had a huge loss of energy and get up and go, shortness of breath and generally feeling under the weather. As I am usually a borderline anaemic I wondered if the heavy blood loss could be a contributor

bumping this thread for VG and myself (I'm thinking of getting one and would really like thoughts/opinions) ...

could be, can your dr help? i've been on normal coil for a few years and get on with it quite well

I'm also bumping this thread because I am thinking of getting one, and would like to know experiences good or bad of anyone who has used one, side-effects etc. Hate the pill and looking for a reliable alternative that doesn't leave me 'a raging hormonal demon' (in the words of my GP and a pretty fair asessment!)Suffer heavy periods already, and a bit concerned that they could get even worse...

I have had the normal thread, had really heavy periods that were very painful, I had to have it taken out. Have had the mirena and would not try anything else (excpet for vasectomy - but thats a whole different story!!)

I think it's time my DH paid an overdue visit to the snip clinic. I don't want the mirena coil because of the hormones (and judging by the other thread it probably would play havoc with me) and I'm sick of these 11 day periods.

I had a normal coil but had it removed after about 6 months because of increasingly heavy bleeding and large clots. (no pain though, but that isn't something I have ever had a problem with) Have a mirena now

I have a normal coil because I can't use any hormone based contracption.
Works well for me. I do have heavy periods but that was already the case before I started the pill. Period are also a bit longer but no other side effects.

I've had the normal coil put in a couple of months ago. I've had 3 periods so far. The first one was EXTREMELY heavy (I didn't know I had that much blood lol), after that it calmed down. The first 3 days or so are still heavy but after that I hardly even notice it. I've always had long periods (around 7 days) so no difference there. No pain though which is great!

I had the normal coil put in a year ago - wanted to avoid the hormone based contraception as was fed up with swellig up every month. Have had no probs at all but the last few months have noticed myself getting rather angry the week before I am due on! Never had this before in my life so not sure if this is anything to do with coil or not!

Jasnem · 20/08/2006 16:25

I've had one before kids, between no 2&3, and now (no 3 is 6 months)
I've always had light periods, but they got lighter when I had the coil in. No pain and no side effects at all for me. It's my perfect contraception.

Just bumping this again and Queenmab, I too am hugely angry and down the week before and can't remember being like that ever before

initially very heavy periods, first 3 mnoths at most. now, no probs. though never did have probs. i think they make them heavier but since i never had particularly heavy periods it didn't matter to me at all.
