Ovarian Cyst

After 3 emergency admission which were thought to be a) an ovarian cyst that has burst, b) a kidney stone, c) gallstones, explanatory key hole surgery and no result I had another 'incident' this week.

Because of where I have been working this was the third hospital been admitted to. They did something wonderful, they arranged a CT scan the same day and an ultrasound the next.

I have a 7.5 cm ovarian cyst and I amuse this is what was causing the other admissions, but because there were several weeks between admission and scans nothing was found.

So dear ladies, have any of you had this? What were the options? What worked?

I'm 47 and not wanting to be pregnant so I'm quite happy to lose the ovary if it will stop these 'incidents'.

I did see the gynecologist yesterday but I was desperate to get home and I will be referred to my local gynecologist (the cyst is not contused (?sp) for follow up, I just wondered what other people's experiences were.

My mum had a very large cyst removed a few yeaes ago due to size she had her ovary removed too. She was in hospital for a couple of days. Hers grew very rapidly so was classed as an urgent case.
I had a smaller cyst which caused me a lit of pain but mine went by its self

I am currently recovering from an operation to remove 2 ovarian cysts. 7cm one on right ovary and 13cm one on the left. They were discovered after an emergency admission to hospital in pain that was worse than childbirth! Initial diagnosis was kidney stones like you but CT and ultrasound found the cysts.

Gynae follow up was very quick in my case as the pain was very bad and it was only 6 weeks from admission to operation.

They removed both cysts, even the larger one without having to remove an ovary which they were reluctant to do unless absolutely necessary. Operation was scheduled to be keyhole and they managed the smaller one (same size as yours) keyhole but had to switch to open surgery for the larger. Op done under general anaesthetic. Recovery has been very straightforward. Pain for the first few days ( discharged from hospital 36 hours after surgery), sore for another week or so and then taking it easy for a few weeks with no lifting etc. i am almost back to full strength now 4 weeks post op. If they had managed to do keyhole, recovery time would have been a lot shorter, 2 weeks.

Make sure when you see the gynae team you emphasis the pain you are in otherwise you may have a longer wait.

Good luck. The relief of having them gone is brilliant.

I had this when 11 weeks pregnant.

Excruciating. Nurses said childbirth would be a breeze in comparison.

It was. Confused

I had a 20cm plus (diameter) cyst removed at age 27. Due to the size and adhesions I lost the ovary too but am now pregnant (just adding that so you don't worry so much about hormones). Mine was borderline malignant on histopathology afterwards but my CA125 had been through the roof. My surgery was painful post op but it was a big one and my scar is impressive. Hope this helps.
