Felt Copper IUD Jerking during MRI?

I know copper isn't magnetic!

Had a lumbar spine MRI today and check with the doctor that I was ok to go in with a copper IUD. I've lost my voice, so had my husband in the waiting room to talk to the nurses, but wasn't able to ask questions in the scanner or once i'd got changed.

All was fine but about 15 mins in I suddenly felt my stomach strongly jerking about - bit like a baby kicking - I assumed this was the IUD, as not sure what else it could have been.

Afterwards, I was quite worried about this, so wrote down on paper for my husband to just double check it was ok for me to have had mri with copper iid, they said yes yes. Bit frustrating I couldn't explain why I was worried due to voice, also am dyspraxic and hand writing is slow and generally illegible anyway. Sigh.

I've now got a dull ache in my uterus -which could just be because i'm worried about it. Have I now got a frazzled, melted, dislodged IUD?

You wouldn't have felt a jerking feeling, even if the iud did move (and copper isn't going to do so) as any movement is due to the static magnetic field (ie doesn't change)

The feeling was probably gas tbh

Maybe it was a muscle spasm - not gas this time though, it was definitely rhythmically moving to the sound of the mri! I've had plenty of gas kicks in my time!

Yes - logically I know it couldn't have been, but then I know I felt something.

The magnetic part of the MRI is not switched off, in fact with many it is impossible, it is a magnet, not an electromagnet.

The magnets are also incredibly powerful.

So if your IUD was made of something that could be affected it would have ripped itself through your body.

But as far as I know sash, it's just copper which shouldn't be affected.

Exactly, it was not the coil.

However I find it amazing that a magnet so powerful, it can move electrons in every atom of your body, is not felt.

Really fascinating

Hi! I'm getting that same Mri done this Friday and I also have a cooper IUD . Did you ever go to the doctors and find out if everything was OK?
