Light wobbly in side eyes & odd flashes of light

I've recently noticed what I would described as a wobbly light in the side of my eyes (think worse on the right) and sometimes the odd flash of light, a bit like lightning. I feel okay in every other way, just wondered if anyone has any ideas would it could be.

Hope you are OK

How did you get on? Hope all is well.

Thanks for your support.

Optician couldn't find anything of concern. He said there was evidence of one floater in one eye, but my symptons would be different if that was the problem. He said my eyes looked really tired - I often fall asleep in the evening for 30 mins and am in bed 8-9 hours so think I get plenty of rest. My reading subscription hasn't changed.

Anyway, as a precaution I have an appointment at the hospital tomorrow.

If nothing comes of this, I might go to the doctor. I think it's more of an eye problem, but my Mum gets epilepsy and when her medication wasn't effected a little while ago she was getting flashing lights.

If eye stuff can be ruled out tomorrow you might want to think of an ocular migraine as being possible.

Glad to hear the optician couldn't find anything. Hope appointment goes well today. I also wonder about migraine. I have had them where my vision goes wobbly but it hasn't led to a headache. It feels scary though and I did talk to my gp but he just said it was a migraine.

Glad to hear it ! I had a detatched retina happen and was in hospital the next day. 18 months of operations and left with no sight in that eye Confused

Optician told me that in some cases the jelly in the eye becomes more watery as you get older and can cause these symptons. She has pointed out it could get worse and there's nothing they can do about it. She has warned me to keep an eye out in the future for lots of blobs in my eyes or a shadow, as the concern is that your retina can come detached if the jelly isn't strong enough.

She is talking about the vitreous. As people age it often seperates from the retina (this is called a PVD) and can tug at it a little It can cause flashes and floaters. If you get a sudden shower of floaters you need to go back ASAP or if the flashes get worse in case it has pulled the retina away. If it happens and you get there in good time they can seal the retina back down. It is normal to get some wooly floaters like see through clouds from this whole process but lots of little black ones are a big 'get to the hospital quick'. If you get a black area in your vision like a black curtain ditto. Go straight away.

On top of what you're doing, it's worth getting your blood pressure checked, btw.

Madmog a PVD is what I had about a week ago, only in one eye, unfortunately my good one, though I probably wouldn't have noticed if it had been my other eye. I have lots of small floaters and a couple of big ones, before this happened I didn't notice any floaters. I am in my mid fifties so at an age when this sort of stuff is apparently quite common. The flashes seem to have stopped now but I feel the floaters will be with me for a very long time.

Have you had your hospital appointment now to rule out epilepsy.
