Cutting toddlers nails..how!?

DS (2) was always fine having his nails and toe nails cut but no more! Ever since my DH did it and managed to nip his skin DS has freaked if we attempt to go near him with the scissors! So we have resorted to cutting his finger nails at night when he is asleep but can't do the same really with his toe nails as he is in a Grobag and it is a bit of a fuss to undo that at night!

So any solutions to cutting nails in general. I have tried bribary but so far it doesn't work..he is very stubbon!

cliipers
and threaten to turn the tv off

or alternatively turn the tv on!

let him see you doing yours (pref with the clippers you're going to use on his)

chocolate buttons work for dd

we used to do her toes when she was trapped in her highchair, with the tray on, so she couldn't see her toes, and with a fr. frais to occupy her. Not so useful for a 2 yr old I guess.

I remember being held down by father and brother while mother cut my toenails - I still cringe every time I have a pedicure and have to warn them first in case I freek out. (Have only had 2 pedicures & freeked out both times poor beautician!)

Hey secur - I am not joking, they really did hold me down!!!

my dd must be asleep and i warm the scissors in my hand as the cold metal alerts her to my intentions, (yes even in her sleep)

futurity, I have a similar thread a few down called 'grooming the ungroomable' re my dd, 17 months. So far I've opted for the strapped in high chair, fave video on and some food to eat and get as much done as I can before she gets fed up. It works best if she's a bit tired and zoned out too.

Evita · 12/03/2004 20:29

actually, sorry, my thread is in the development / behaviour section.

Thanks for all your advice. I did a variety of things tonight including trying when he was in his high chair (managed one toe nail!)..also said about turning off tv/cbeebies "Do you want to watch CBeebies".."yes pease" "I need to cut your nails first" "NO!". He let me do his finger nails (which is good as he has chicken pox so needed to prevent scratching) but not his toe nails. In the end DH and I leapt on him and did them and he realised it didn't hurt after all...until the next time though when I expect he will object again!!
