Has been dragging on for weeks and is stopping me from getting on with sport that I love.

I'm sure by GP will just prescribe anti imflams and rest, which I've already tried.

Do I need a sports physio or a podiatrist??

Thanks

Lots of similar stories here - I asked GP for a referral to a sports doctor as I didn't want to be told to stop running.

Sports doctor was v rude - told me, of course I have PF, I'm over-40, overweight and a runner. Nice.

However, custom made orthotics and a cortisone injection started the healing process nicely, with stretches, ice packs, rolling a tennis ball under my arches while sitting down, and never ever bare feet now Sad.

I wear Birkenstocks around the house. And even outside sometimes Confused.

And every morning before I get up, I stretch my calves (straight leg, foot flexed) and write my name in the air with my toes - it works!

Very occasionally I get the odd twinge but now I know how to manage it.

Good luck OP, it can improve but you will need to adopt some new habits to keep it at bay.

If you can put up with them. Night splints to keep foot/feet from plantar flexing (pointing down) while you sleep cured mine. It reduces the need to stretch the structures causing the pain. Injections didn't work and having them required a colleague from holding my other foot down to prevent me kicking my favourite consultant in the head! The stretching exercises were no good as it was always worse first thing in the morning. Insoles were unless silicone were too hard. It's one of those Ortho conditions that will resolve on its own after a while, but why would anyone want to wait! I can't thank one of the older crumbly staff grades for suggesting them enough. Some things just can't be taught. If I can find a link I will post it.

Just googled foam night splints for plantar faciitis and what you want should come up, ranged from 17.99 which would do until you decided if they were worthwhile....I can't work out how to post a link on this forum sorry

Physio exercises and a wonderful steroid injection here, although once one foot was reasonable, I got it in the other one which was annoying. Luckily that one was manageable with large amounts of ibuprofen and stretches.

Instep support doesn't work for everyone. I have hyper-mobility and the inserts made it far worse in my case. Someone on a previous thread suggested writing the alphabet with your foot before you get out of bed in the morning, and I found that really helpful (despite being 95% over it I still get very stiff and painful feet when I've been sitting or laying down - I hobble like someone twice my age until they 'warm up')

I saw my GP about it and he gave me a steroid injection.

It was a flipping miracle. Would def recommend
^This^ Me too, but I also used Boots insoles.
