My 21-month-old had an accident two weeks ago which knocked her front teeth. One tooth, not loose, is out of alignment and starting to change colour. Changing colour means nerve damage. The NHS dentist, a very sweet and sympathetic woman, explained that there's nothing they can do, because the child is too young for an extraction, and that we will simply have to wait and see whether her adult tooth will also be discoloured. Being a foreigner, I know that if I were in the US there would other measures I could take - get X-rays, test the degree of nerve damage, look at non-invasive cosmetic dental options, etc. In other words, the options are not limited to 'extract-or-not-extract'. But these are not available in this country, either privately or under the NHS. Are there any other Mums out there who have had similar experiences with their children? I will greatly appreciate all anecdotes and advice.
