basal cell carcinoma, anyone had one?

I went to the dermatologist about a little spot on my face that never goes away and apparently it's one of these. They want to do an excision although this will leave a scar on my face. Does anyone have any experience of this?

Yep, I had one, had it cut out, and that was that! There is a tiny scar, but it's not something I think about.

Leaving it isn't an option, as it will continue to grow. Whilst it is very very very very unlikely that it would grow into something bad, or spread, it would likely grow more unsightly.

Get it removed. Small procedure, tiny scar.

Yes, my mum has had a few. Better to get it seen to soon, as my mum left one of them (for years) and had to have quite invasive surgery. The removal of the others was a doddle (her words)

I don't really know how long I've had it - definitely a year or two, possibly more. I asked a beautician about it and she said it was a blocked pore, so I never really had any urgency. I'm going to get it seen to straight away - they have done a biopsy and sent off a sample and I'll have it done right away.

Hi OP, yes, I had one taken off about 4 years ago. Also, I'd ignored mine for years too, it was just by my nose, i don't even remember it appearing really and it grew so slowly. Anyway, I saw my GP and he diagnosed it straight away, saw a dermatologist and he advised that i had mine taken off by a cosmetic surgeon just because of its awkward position, I did and it was all fine, gone and that's been the end of it, you can hardly see where it was atall. I'm quite fair skinned and it just made me a lot more careful and now always keep my face out of the sun and cake on the factor 30....helps a bit with the wrinklage too!!

Yes.. I had one taken off..just above my lip..sort of under my nose. Because the area doesn't have much 'spare' skin I was told I'd be scarred.. but 4 years down the line I barely notice it. Mine was slightly different in that it was a keratoacanthoma (so grew suddenly and very fast and looked really really nasty) and a soon as I was seen in the derm clinic at the hospital they took me in and operated there and then!

I was told mine is usually seen in MUCH older people (I was 42) and now I wear sunscreen all year round as I'm fair, freckly and prone to skin cancer!

Blocked pore? They look fuck all like a blocked pore. I've spotted about half a dozen bccs on the heads of my bald patients sporner always on the look out for blocked pores under my magnifying loupes at work

If your GP had said blocked pore and it turned out to be this, what would you do?

OP they are very common as you can see from this thread and even the larger ones can be removed from your face with such skill that you would hardly know it had been there.

Sorry to resurrect what looks like a older thread, but given that fact that you have all had one, do basal cell carcinomas sometimes flare-up and then settle right down in the same place? I've put up a new thread with a more indepth question about a pink spot on my face, but came across this so thought I'd ask!

Inmybelly, mine looked fairly innocent tbh, yes, it sometimes would appear a little inflamed and other times so pale that I barely noticed it.
Let me tell you, I'm a bit of a worrier and I really wasn't worried atall about it. But my gp at the time knew what it was straight away. I'd pop to see your gp, it'll be fine, hope this helps a bit

Mine settles down enough the that skin goes completely flat and back to normal. It's not a mole, but rather a blemish that keeps arising in the same place...??
