hiya...
I had my son 4 1/2 months ago and am losing hair like mad. No idea why - is this normal?

Welcome to the club. Dd is 4.5mths old and I seem to be losing hair by the handful. The same thing happened after I had ds1 and ds2. It looks like a lot but it isn't really.

Quootiepie · 07/08/2006 12:46

its horrible... I get handfuls

So much loose hair ends up on my clothes that I bear more than a passing resemblance to Chewbacca.

DollyP · 07/08/2006 20:19

Me too! I lost LOADS after DD was born. Grew back eventually but meant rearranging my style. Have you got a nice hairdresser who can give you a cut to help you manage it?

It's very distressing but completely normal. Hang on in there XXX

zoeuk1 · 07/08/2006 20:40

this happened to me too. ive usually got thick long curly hair but after ds2 it went very thin and straight! i had it all cut short and it eventually started growning back thicker and curly.

Quootiepie · 07/08/2006 20:42

my hair is so thin anyway I have to clean my hairbrush out daily aswell!

completely normal..I didnt have it after ds so was very shocked to get it after having dd. Tons of my hair comes out in clumps every day. It is just easing off a little more now and dd is nearly 8mths and I am near 5 mths pg..so this time nbext year will be bald.

TicTacsMum · 07/08/2006 20:46

Happened to me too at about 3 months. Lasted for a couple of months and totally back to normal now. Hair doesn't even seem thinner.

dandycandyjellybean · 07/08/2006 20:47

Panic not! I had pantene advert worthy long straight shiny lustrous hair (sorry for the brag but it's true ) right up until my ds was about 4 months old then in the space of 3 weeks I lost about 50% of my hair and it went all horrible and lacklustre. In desperation i had it all cut off in a short crop, but I would say that from my ds being about 7 months it has returned to normal, although I still have a short funky hairstyle, with some pretty mad blonde and red highlights (in an effort to make the best of a bad job) and all I will say is that it is way easier to manage and loads of people have said that it makes me look much younger. So try not to panic. It will pass, and good may yet come of it. .

Adorabelle · 07/08/2006 20:56

I had a Huge bald patch right at the front left
side of my head after dd was born.

I like you Quootiepie was losing hair like mad,
went to see a v.sympathetic GP who said 'Fear not
it'll grow back' & it did

Bucketsofdinosaurs · 07/08/2006 21:00

Yup very common with any sort of shock/trauma, I know of someone whose hair started falling out 3months after her marriage ended abruptly and another after she had salmonella.
Go to a nice and/or expensive hairdressers and ask them to give you a whole new look. They generally know what they're doing and will be very familiar with the problem.

mum18772 · 07/08/2006 22:10

Talking of hair, has anyone experienced pigment loss around the hair line on your forehead? DS now 16 moths and in last couple of months my new hair has started to grow back but there is a little patch of grey growing now - ahh! Only ever had a few stray grey hairs before - I have a semi circle of less tanned skin on my forehead and it is just going into my gair line - reckon it must be post-pregnacy hormone levels to blame?

Have noticed more white comming through but the most alarming thing for me was my eyelashes turning white when I caught for DD 5 years ago. They still haven't returned to normal.
