Tight foreskin

DS1 has been seeing a consultant for undescended testes, and when we saw him again last week, I asked about DS1's foreskin, which seems a bit tight to me. He's 2 years 4 months. The doc had a look, and initially said, yes, that will need to be circumcised. Then he managed to retract it, and said that if we did that every day in the bath we'd avoid the need for an op.

However, DS (quite understandably!) doesn't like us doing it, and has started saying that it hurts. It's very difficult to do in the bath anyway with him being wet. The end of his penis now looks quite red and sore, and might even have some little cuts in it.

What do we do? I've read on here before to leave well alone until they're older, but I'm loathe to if it will mean that he will have to be circumcised because of it. Should I take him to the GP to have a look at the soreness, or is this normal when you start trying to retract it?

I don't have good feelings about this consultant generally, so I'm worried about putting DS1 though pain unnecessarily.

TIA for any advice

I'm fairly sure that leaving well alone until they are older is the thing to do so long as it is not causing them problems when they pass urine, ballooning up or them having urine infections. Personally I would just leave it but prob best to check it out with another doc if possible.

my dh had this when he was younger and was circumcised and had his undecended testes sorted out when he was about 10. Although he had to spend time in hospital after the operation it all went well and hes never suffered any problems since. i don't think its anything to worry about if he does have to be circumcised in the future for health reasons.

Might just leave alone then. It's not actually causing him any problems as it is.

My ds is in hospital tomorrow for a circumcision, he is 7. He is in pain with it now but we left it although we have known it would be a problem for a while. He is ok with what will happen but I dont think he would have been able to cope with it when he was younger.

DS has actually had one op already for the undescended testes, that went fine. He coped afterwards on calpol and nurofen which was amazing considering what he'd had done. He bounced back really quickly, and was running around the next day. I hope your son is OK tomorrow

laura, I personally would follow my instinct re the consultant, and wouldnt feel obliged to take his advice.
Circumcision not a big deal, there are millions and millions of circumcised men in the world. Better done when he is a bit older, and knows whats going on.
