Newborn baby boobs!

My 2 week old son has breasts!

I know that newborns sometimes have swollen nipples when they are born, (hormones or something?) but I'm sure he didn't when he was born. They are actually like lumps under the skin. Anyone got any ideas? DH is most concerned.

my ds was also sporting little boobies for the first six weeks or so I restrained myself and didn't take any pictures to show future girlfriends. Apparently it's just remainders of your hormones - it goes on a bit longer in b/f infants because of the hormones in breastmilk, but is totally harmless and very common.

oh and his didn't start until he was a few weeks old. And felt like lumps, too.

elvis, mine had this, same time. apparently it is baby mastitis! but you don't treat it, it just disappeared. his looked quite alarming for about 24 - 48 hours, then went down a bit, and I think had gone completely in a few days/a week. his were like lumps under his nipples, with slightly swollen tissue around, and quite red and a bit hot. didn't seem to bother him though!

Oh yes, Elvis, my ds2 had this. Neither of my other two had had it so I went up to the doctor and they were very casual "it's completely normal, a hormones thing blah blah blah". I felt a bit of a fool, tbh! Don't blame you or your dh for being concerned, 'cos it frightened the pants off us! Don't worry any more though - one thing off the list!

DH will be pleased that I don't have to takw him to be measured for a bra!!

Hi Elvis - this is normal and will last for a number of weeks for the hormonal reasons mentioned. In years gone by, these little breats were squeezed to express fluid from them called 'witches milk'. Doing that caused infection and needless pain. Nowadays we leave well alone.
Wait till he is 14 years old and develops them again - my eldest DS had quite a panic - thought he was turning into a woman
