Hello, thanks all for your posts. Very interesting.

Turns out the omeprazole is not causing the headaches. So I'm back on the. Symptoms are improving (I think), though I'm concerned I should be avoiding the foods/issue that's causing the reflux and not just medicate.

Any red flag foods that I should be wary of? Thanks.

Doc says coffee/opaque liquids, chilli etc. For me bread of any sort especially French bread, citrus things, most fatty foods and any large meal or overindulgence. I still drink wine though, which doesn't seem to make much difference as long as I avoid crisps and snacky things.

Also don't eat for hours before bedtime and avoid eating in between meals.

Wildthong, I have hypertension so it was really to try and live a big longer as well, though unfortunately diet makes little difference to my blood pressure. Honestly sometimes I was in so much pain from the stomach probs as well as continuous nausea I thought I would be better off dead. Anything is better than that. I still have crisps etc but just a few - not the whole bag, then another and another etc.

If you are on long term NSAIDs then you should nearly always be prescribed something like omeprazole to protect your tummy. Most people in this scenario take it long term without problems (I've taken it for over 10yrs). The problem comes when it's prescribed long term as a solution without knowing what the problem is. It's always better to seek the cause of the indigestion/HB and try to solve that rather than just continually treating the symptoms.
OP hope you can find the cause of yours and get some long term relief as it can be truly miserable.

Baby

Maybe time to go and ask for a referral? That sounds severe and not something you should be expected to tolerate.

Flowers.

Im currently taking this on and off, have been for 18 months but recently acid pains aren't bad but full feeling (actually convinced there is something large in there that shouldn't be) is awful.
I've pushed GP and am going for an ultra sound initially to 'check organs'.

I can't pinpoint any particular food but I need to make a proper effort to keep a food diary, will do depending on the results of the US.

Does anyone get the same, feel as if there is actually something in my stomach particularly right under both sides of my ribs?

Also feel like Ive put on a lot of weight but just round my tummy and sides. Feeling bloody miserable about it Sad

Jbck · 22/02/2014 17:42

Is this what people mean when they talk about bloating, Ive never had this feeling before really just started in last couple of weeks.
Ultrasound in 2 weeks so wasnt sure whether to go back to GP in the meantime.
I've enough other bodily problems without this too Grin, Im going to have to start those horrible yoghurty drinks now aren't I?

Hi. 20 mgs is the starting dose. I am having problems with gastritis and reflux since having my dd's. I have taken up to 60 mgs omeprazole a day. Unfortunately I have terrible side effects from ppi's. Half of my hairs fallen out and it's still falling. Rash and terrible joint pains. I am now on 2pm mgs nexium but this does not control my symptoms and I have stomach ache all the time. Feeling really miserable. Tried all the usual stuff with no difference. I don't understand what has caused this? Something from my pregnancies but i don't know what?! Having a lot of tests done privately as the wait on nhs is months. Costing us a fortune and nothing has been found. Life sucks at the moment. Any ideas what might be the cause? I have tried dairy and gluten free for a couple of weeks but no difference.

Report
Reincarnatedpig · 23/02/2014 15:20

You poor thing!

Why is the nhs wait months? In my area(London) the referral time to hospital is 2-3 weeks and tests that can't be done in clinic are booked within a couple of weeks after that.

Go back to your GP and demand a referral to the gastro dept. Could it be autoimmune disease - collitis or crohns?

Oh babyjane might try them, didn't know it came in tablet form. Will await outcome of US first.

Today's pain as been all over my tummy and slightly into my back. Had one really severe attack just under a year ago but mostly it's not too bad. Only thing that made me push for further investigation was changes in area of pain and this odd feeling of something in my tummy.

My DP sounds very similar to you in particular migonette, have you been tested for H-pylori?

The feeling as though being eaten from inside out is how he described it, nauseous a lot, pain under rib, stomach gurgling all the time like so much water inside.

He has H-pylori, first course of antibiotics haven't worked do he is starting second line treatment soon, 4 different tablets for 2x weeks.

Hope this helps as he even unwell for 6 months now.
