Took ds to g.p (locum)this morning as he is still poorly. He has been being sick since last Friday, and has diarrohea too.
The g.p said he has Gastro. I asked how long it would last for, and he said he didn't know, probably a week.
He said to give him Calpol for the pain and give him whatever he likes to eat and drink, but in small quantities.
I asked if he needed rehydration powders, and he said if you like, but he's not dehydrated.
He has only had 1 wet nappy in the last 24 hours, and it was only damp. Also he isn't producing tears when he cries.
TBH the doc didn't seem to care less.

Nutty, he started last wednesday, got better on friday, went downhill on saturday, spent sat night in hospital, was bad sun and most of monday, improved last night and is being a monster today, so much better!

Our GP told us that the most recent studies show that restricting diet doesn't affect the outcome of D&V illnesses so it's perfectly ok to eat whatever you fancy. (Within reason - you wouldn't eat a vindaloo, for instance!).

Would your ds notice if you added extra water to his milk, Nutcracker? That would give him some extra liquids. Grated apple is supposed to be good because the grating action releases pectin which is the substance that makes jam set and presumbaly settles the tummy. Also, the water that rice has been cooked in helps bad tummies, because of the starch.

I hope he's better soon, D&V is just the worst thing.

Yes suedonim, the guidance notes the hospital gave us said that starving (after initial sicky days) was not beneficial at all. I think they should probably eat according to appetite.

No extra advice for your ds, just advice for you. Make sure you keep yourself as well rested and healthy as possible just in case you get anything passed to you. Just saying that because when dd was 4 months old she got mild gastro but it carried on for over 2 weeks and I was running myself down being up half the night with her, worrying about her, doing things for her etc. Then just as she was almost better, I got gastro too, but really suddenly and really severely, and was in hospital on a drip for 2 days. Would have been 4 days but I begged to go home as soon as felt at all able to because I missed dd too much (wouldn't let her come to the hosp in case she got worse).

So look after yourself too!
