Pixiefish · 04/08/2006 22:10

is her skin darkish- iirc she has black hair- is her skin dark as well, if so its very common and just excema. Otherwise it's still common and still eczema but the circles are particularlyu common in darker skin

misdee · 04/08/2006 22:10

its not quite like that. its redder, more scaly and small patches.

if its ringworm do i need to tajke her to the GP? is it contagious?

her skin is pale-ish, but she does have blue spots. my family origins are romany gypsies. she has dark hair and very dark eyes, i guess if she went out in the sun with no sun cream. she would go very dark. does that count?

it's probably just the way the excema is at the moment. Probably due to her skin colour. hth

misdee · 04/08/2006 22:21

rickman, dd1 eczema is really really bad atm as well. i just feel like sobbing for them all. they are so uncomfortable and sore.

Misdee - dd has discoid excema - it's notoriously difficult to shift

Generally we just go with our usual excema routine but with the addition of anti-b's either cream or oral. Dd is at higher risk of infection because of her other issues though.

Hope you can get it cleared up.

thanks for the advice. I am pretty good at dealing with atopic and sebhorric eczema but have had no dealings with discoid eczema. am going to see the GP on monday to see what we can use on it. will apply some of dd1 aveeno to see if that has any effect on it.

I know this is a 6 year old thread.... BUT 1) we're faced with discoid eczema (DS1, face and shoulders), and 2) we're so desperate with the usual means (steroid works only when you apply it, patches reappear within days of stopping) that we want to throw money at the problem, ie try homeopathy even if I doubt it has any effect.

Aviatrix - can you remember the name of the homeopath you visited?

I visited mumsnet local but couldn't find any homeopath for the CHiswick/Hammersmith area.

Thanks!

BasicallySFB · 13/01/2013 08:39

DS (they thought) had eczema of the discoid kind - turned out to be psoriasis. He's now on Eumovate which clears patches completely in 3 days max, plus Aveno for dry skin as he's allergic to Diprobase and Doublebase.

Azrael · 13/01/2013 08:45

Thanks for fast reply BasicallySFB.

We have Eumovate, the dermatologist (Dr. Mayou) advised to use it on the shoulders only as it's too strong for the face.

Unfortunately, as with other steroid: DS's patches come back within days of stopping Eumovate. Arhh. Looks like his condition is more severe than others. Thanks for sharing though!

BasicallySFB · 13/01/2013 10:52

We found that with Eumovate cream but Eumovate ointment worked much better. We were also told to keep using until completely gone then 2 more days - you've probably tried it but might work if not?

Pesky skin!!

Azrael · 13/01/2013 12:53

Indeed, pesky skin. Yes we tried Eumovate ointment, and I'm aware of the 'keep using until gone then 2 more days'... still coming back I'm afraid.

I may start a new thread to find out names of homeopaths in West London. Or Chinese herbalists. Jeez what I'd do to find something that works!!

BasicallySFB · 13/01/2013 15:05

It's a nightmare! Fingers crossed something works for you!

dorade · 11/01/2014 23:02

Fucidin is the answer. Just in case anyone searches this condition.

lfoatw2 · 12/01/2014 12:36

i have eczema that started out as discoid eczema and is now all over and in huge patches. i have been to appointments at the hospital recently where i was talked through the routine for my face...

  1. you can use eumovate on your face bit gps tend not to tell you this. make sure the patch is coated in it - don't be scared when it says sparingly.
  2. do this twice a day for no more then 3 or 4 days till it calls down.
  3. when it goes it is really important not to stop straight away - drop down a level in strength (i go to normal hydrocortisone) and repeat twice a day for a few days hen down to once a day. if you stop straight from the stronger stuff it comes back worse...

hope that helps!
