smoking - question about giving up

a friend of mine gave up smoking (alledgely) on 1st Jan this year. He still has to use one of those fake ciggie things, with tablets in that give out nicotine. I find it hard to believe that he has actually given up, he also travels a lot with his job and has to entertain/go out for meals and I think he still smokes while he is away, then has to use the "puffer things" when at home in front of his family as he doesn't want to feel like he has let them down.
am I just being cynical. I personally think that if you gave up in Jan, by now you would not be relying on patches/nicotine puffers or whatever you call them 8 months later?

Nicotine is what kept him smoking fag after fag, he may not of managed to have weaned him off of the fake fags as they are still nicotine but without the smoke to go with them. If he had gone cold turkey the nicotine would have left his system after a few days, as it is hes still got the pull of it to have some more
Better than hes on puffers than real fags...hoping hes not smoking while hes at work.
Ask him when he plans to be puffer free.

I gave up in January and stopped using patches in March. I haven't had a ciggie since and certainly don't feel the need to use nicotine replacement anymore.

However, every person is different and he may have actually become reliant on the replacement products and not want to take that final step to fully quitting.

He could of course just be lying to all of you, I wouldn't bother about it too much as the only person he is lying to and cheating is himself and he will know that.

good point at the end flutterbe - you are right, of course.
