Trying to keep this brief! I've been living with these for the best part of my adult life. Started around 10yrs old, just had them now & then, eased off until I was in early 20's, when they became frequent. Increased as I got older, and now at nearly 40, for the last 10 years they've been a part of every day life.
I've been put on various tablets to prevent them. Prior to this i was taking the maximum co-codamol everyday, and/ or ibuprofen. Yes it was medication overuse, but I overcame that eventually. Now I'm on amitriptyline, topiramate, verapamil, levorel patches. All to prevent migraine. Except I still suffer about 12-16 a month. I can either take naproxen for relief or paracetamol. I have naratriptan if its really bad.
I've been to see a neurologist at the local hospital who was concerned about one of the tablets, or rather the dose amount of one of the tablets I'm on. He wondered how I managed to get up in the mornings! I told him with kids you don't have any option!
He did mention Botox could be beneficial. As would be drug withdrawal programme & talking therapy. I'm really hoping these treatments combined will help, I don't want to live the rest of my life like this, it's debilitating. This particular migraine I have now I've had since Sunday. It's not lifted at all, it's like a heavy weight at front of my head, aching all the time. My neck & shoulders feel like the weight of the world are upon them. My eyes hurt just to move them.
Has anyone else had Botox treatment for migraines & if so has it helped?
