Breast reduction surgery on NHS

I know this is a long shot, but has anybody out there had this procedure on the NHS. I'm 5'3 a size 10 and a 34J breast size, after suffering years of back pain, neck pain, shoulder wheels, rashes and tears under my breasts and not to mention the psychological issues with regards to unwanted attention and comments. I visited my GP in Oct '13 who fully supported what I was asking and referred me to a local consultant, who also agreed with my request, my case was presented to my local funding panel who have now refused this as it is not a procedure my local NHS will fund. I was so looking forward to this procedure as it would finally relieve me of all the above and have not been sleeping properly, I feel so teary and moody all the time as I'm so disappointed. If I could afford to go private then I definitely would, but I just can't afford to pay for this procedure myself as all my wages are tied up with raising a young family and paying for a mortgage etc. if anybody has any advice at all it would be greatly appreciated. I have also discovered that the neighbouring local NHS WILL fund the procedure, but it live just outside the area !!!!!!!!! I am so frustrated and upset with all this, please help !!!!!Sad

I have no experience of this, although as a 36GG I feel some of your pain.

However, thinking it through, have they put their reasons in writing? If not, ask them to do so. Also ask them to provide written details of the appeal procedure (I'm sure there will be one)

If they have, go and see your GP again and go through the written reasons for refusal with him and see what he can offer to support an appeal against the original decision.

If that doesn't work, post again and I'm sure we can have a re-think.

As rockin D really, they must have an appeal process, and keep your gp on side. you need to know the reasons for their decision
