presumably that's what these horrible little itchy blighters are anyway! seem to be getting alot of them on my body just recently. is there anything you can "dissolve"them with?

you can get rid of them with electrolysis at a beautician

I used to have a load round my neck; a couple of sessions did it

mind you they did turn black before they went away, so I had to do it in winter so I could wear a nice high top

paperchaser · 01/08/2006 17:29

I've got a few skin tags. They're not itchy though. My mum had millions and had to have them burnt off at the hospital, so I spose I've got that to look forward to as well.

zippitippitoes · 01/08/2006 17:31

I thought you tied a very tight thread round them and then they go black and fall off

not sure about the itchy bit though

Northerner · 01/08/2006 17:32

I get them on my neck, I have played with a few and twisted them around over a few weeks and they went black and dropped off.

Grim.

As long as they aren't coloured (ie are the same colour as the rest of your skin), you can get rid of them by tying a thread tightly round the base and strangling them. Use cotton or silk thread.

You'll probably need help to do this, as you have to tie a loose loop like a slip-knot, position it over the skin-tag, and tighten the slip-knot while pulling the skin-tag up so that the knot is at the very base. Tighten it as tight as you can bear - it stings, but isn't agonising - and then tie the ends together to make sure that it doesn't slip off. Snip the ends so that they don't catch on your clothes. The tag will get red and perhaps a tiny bit inflamed, but after a day or so that will subside, it will turn black and maybe crusty, and eventually fall off. I've done this several times and the tags haven't regrown or left any scars. Once the loop slipped and I didn't replace it, so only the top of the tag fell off and it is slowly regrowing - I'll probably be able to tie it off again in a year or two.

But do not try this if the tags have colour!

southeastastra · 01/08/2006 17:37

we had this a couple of weeks ago, i cut them off with clippers, blinking things (don't try this yourself - or don't sue me)

PrettyCandles · 01/08/2006 17:39

! Did they bleed?

Sorry to tell you this, but they generally grow back if they've been cut off.

southeastastra · 01/08/2006 17:40

yes and mine is growing back but it has taken a few years

paperchaser · 01/08/2006 17:44

Clippers

cutekids · 01/08/2006 17:44

must admit,in the past i've cut them off with nail-clippers but just wondered if there was a less sadistic way of doing this!
what if they are coloured?
what sort of colour?

It's a symtom of pcos,do you have that ? I have them in a not so nice area ...can't believe I just wrote that?!

suejonez · 01/08/2006 17:53

do PrettyCandles thread trick on them

cutekids · 01/08/2006 17:56

sorry,what's pcos?

OP posts:
suejonez · 01/08/2006 18:04

Oh and 'm not sure they're PCOS (polycystic oarian syndrome) related but more generally hormone related which is why people often develop them when pregnant or put on weight.

suejonez · 01/08/2006 18:06

Cutekids - if you still have acne at 38 you may have PCOS - weight gain, acne, excess hair on face, arms belly, irregluar or complete lack of periods, secondary infertility? Any or all of those ring a bell?

brimfull · 01/08/2006 18:53

poly cystic ovarian syndrome

PrettyCandles · 02/08/2006 20:54

I say not to touch any non-skin-coloured ones because I know as little as any other layperson about skin cancers. One thing I do know is that an area of coloured skin that is irregular in shape or protrudes can be (not 'is') a cancer, in which case you don't want to mess with it - leave that to a professional.

SaffyCat · 02/08/2006 21:07

I had a skin tag under my arm removed by my GP 6 years ago, who froze it - not comfortable at the time but it worked and it has not come back
