Anyone suffering with sore stiff joints at the mo??

I am . It started last week and I am sore and stiff from my fingers to my shoulders & neck and it's started in my feet and knees now too. I could barely open the milk at the weekend and changing dd's nappy was challenging. Anyhow, I've had a blood test today after seeing the gp on Friday and am keeping everything crossed that it's short lived and viral. I'm on anti inflammatory's btw so am able to type ok (though I shouldn't be). Hope to goodness it's nothing more! Anyway, was just wondering if anyone else has had this recently. I only as as I spoke to my brother yesterday and today and he has something very similar which started around the same time. He lives 100 miles from me??!!! Very odd. So, is there something going round, is it just pure co-incidence or has he come out in sympathy?

I did have bad joints about 5 months after having children, but your DD is older than that isn't she. Apparently that was due to the progesterone finally departing my body, leaving me old and creaky again!

My children;s nanny once had it (she's much younger than me) and it turned out to be fifth disease (slapped cheek). How is DD? Has she shown any sign of being ill?

Hi DelGirl - how weird! I'm hopefully going to get blood test results tomorrow for exactly the same thing. I had a viral infection a few months ago which made every single joint painful, but I also broke out in big lumps on my legs, arms and chest. Very attractive! At the moment it's only in my left hand, neck and shoulders so the GP is testing for arthritis now. Neither of my 2 DS were affected by the virus though if that sets your mind to rest?

soapbox, I had the aching joints a few months after dd was born. Thankfully that went, can't remember how long I had it for, couple of months, maybe 3?! I posted about it at the time and had lots of responses so put it down to breastfeeding. DD is nearly 16 months now . Interesting about the slap cheek disease. DD has had a rash also since last Thursday which the gp saw on Friday and he thinks that was viral too as it's now gone (today) but his initial thought was that she may be allergic to her anti b's that she's on for renal reflux. Have googled slap cheek and does sound like it could be just hope there's no long term problems. Just have to wait and see.

Dec, sorry to hear you're still suffering. Hope the blood tests show up nothing serious. Hmmm, no actual lumps here as yet. Do you mind me asking they were like? DD is running around like a mad thing so i'm pretty sure her joints aren't affected thank goodness.

Thanks for the info [smile)

I had a virus last month that sounds similar, made me feel my bones were aching, everything was a huge effort. Mine coincided with sinusitis but nurse told me there was virus going round that mimics arthritis and it lasts about 4 weeks .

DelGirl · 31/07/2006 23:23

oh i'm quite pleased to hear that polgara. I may not be saying that after a couple of weeks just really don't want it to be anything else. I had kind of flu/cold like symptoms at the beginning of the week before last and felt quite rough and I had thought that the 2 may be linked. I'll let my brother know, thanks.

Ahh - sounds like it could be slapped cheek then!

Did DD have reddish face - could have been mistaken for sunburn or flushing in the heat?

The adult version doesn't seem to have such pronounced red facedness, but does have the awful joint pain.

My DCs nanny was off work for a week but made a full recovery very quickly. Children usually show very few symptoms apart from a very slight temp and flushed face look

Anyway, hope you soon get better. I can't believe she is 16 months already

DelGirl · 31/07/2006 23:35

no, her rash wasn't how they described but I guess everyone's different and her cheeks weren't flush either but the joint pain is symetrical (sp) as it describes. Just have to be patient I suppose and hope that it goes as quickly as it appeared.

and dd, yep 16 mths. I can hardly believe it it has gone so quickly. She's a walking talking dynamo but very cute with it
