Try swishing warm salt water round your mouth - you might have an infection in the flap of gum around the tooth and that might help calm things down.

You could also try chewing an aspirin in your mouth directly on the tooth and letting it absorb round the tooth.

Sensodyne also do a toothpaste called Rapid Relief which can help if you rub in it around the gum.

Get an aspirin and rub it on gum.

TheWanderingUterus · 25/01/2014 19:32

Strepsils sucked as close to the painful bit as you can.

The expensive ones with anaesthetic and antiseptic qualities are the best.

almaradlu · 25/01/2014 19:59

If you can get to a chemist try Orajel it is fantastic for toothache -I swear by it

isisisis · 25/01/2014 20:08

Do not put aspirin directly on your gum. Aspirin contains saylic acid & will achieve nothing more than a chemical burn on your gum.
Alternate paracetamol & ibuprofen if safe for you to take. Brush well & rinse with salty water. Then get yourself to your dentist as soon as you can.

Aspirin is very acidic, I has a patient on Thursday with a huge ulcer on his gum where he had been reusing aspirin on it. It has now outlasted his toothache as we've done a root canal treatment but the ulcer will take weeks to heal. Bad advice.

Can you get under the flap of gum that is normally overlying wisdom teeth? If you can clean under there then it usually provides some relief.

Ememem84 · 25/01/2014 20:53

Thanks all. No aspirin in house so will alternate nurofen as paracetamol. Will get some oralgel tomorrow. Have left a message with dentist re appointment on Monday will call first thing.

Hubby has suggested hot water and cloves (rank). But apparently it should help to numb.

Am hoping it's just teeth settling/moving. (They do that right....?) but definetly will call dentist on Monday. And hope for an appointment ASAP.

I have an abscess again under one of my bottom teeth and it is throbing with my heartbeat. Am on co-codamol and ibuprofen and a bit light headed as its difficult eating biscuits anything

Ememem84 · 26/01/2014 15:01

Somewhere - ouch. Poor you. Sending sympathies. Sounds like you'll be dentisting tomorrow too. Have seen dentist far too often recently.

Thanks for the sympathies Smile (more than ive had off 'D'H) I wish i had whisky or similar to numb it but I tried salt water instead, that was useless and yuck. Yes i will be dentisting tomorrow and refusing to have it pulled until I have had anti-b's again. don't want to have a gap Grin

matilda101 · 26/01/2014 17:56

When I had an infection I was pregnant and couldn't take ibruprofen and paracetamol just didn't touch the pain, gargling with very hot, very strong salt water helped a bit! If you can get to a 24 hour chemist you could get some clove oil, it might help a bit. Wisdom teeth infection pain is the worst pain I have ever experienced (and I've had two children!) so I feel your pain! I had my wisdom tooth taken out with a local anaesthetic when my daughter was two weeks old-I never want to experience pain like that again!!

Ememem84 · 26/01/2014 21:36

Am hoping it's just because wisdom teeth are moving and no infection. Can't wait until tomorrow morning. No clove oil but have gargles with hot water and cloves. Ick ick.

I am feeling your pain :(

Hot salt water (hot as you can stand it) and swish around and hold over the tooth for a minute.
Orajel as suggested above.
Paracetamol and ibuprofen. (For the love of god don't rub "neat" aspirin on it!)

I also use sensodyne and an antiseptic mouthwash (like corsodyl but own brand)

Dentist tomorrow...

Ememem84 · 27/01/2014 18:21

Dentist on Wednesday. Doctors tomorrow. Dr Google found a link between sinuses and teeth. Face (under eyes) hurts more than teeth today.
