Farty McFartypants - is it gluten?

About 4 weeks ago I went on a low-carb diet not following any particular programme, just trying to keep carb count below about 60-70g per day.

Since doing this I've noticed that the flatulence I've had (and always just accepted as one of those things) has to a large extent gone. It's been quite noticeable to me.

Acouple of days ago I reintroduced bread, pasta, biscuits in a normal sort of quantity and ... the gas is back with a vengance.

Do absorbable carbs generally promote wind or could something else be going on?I have wondered about Coeliac in the past (in respect of both me and my mum). Or am I just over-reacting and this reduction in fartiness would be expected anyway on a low-carb diet?

This is a common up-side of a low-carb diet. I was tested for Coeliac as I get all sorts of problems when I eat too much bread. I think it has more to do with intolerance to yeast tbh. I don't seem to have as many problems with leavened bread. A lot of people say they feel healthier for not eating bread. Coeliacs have a lot more ailments than wind iyswim?

Try eating a little Bio yoghurt every day. Magic.

Buzzardbird and secretswirrels, thanks for your responses. Argh, been so bloated and gassy today again. Maybe I'm just not made for carbs. I love bread though, and generally am not one for cutting out food groups (when not trying to lose weight). I eat tons of natural bio yog when I am doing the low carb thing - maybe that has some effect Grin.

Iwill experiment a bit more.

The reason I mentioned Coeliac is cos my mum has had sort of IBS ever since I can remember and now has pretty severe ostroperosis which I know can be exacerbated by Coeliac ...
