the antibiotics worka fter three ltos so id jsyt keep on wiht what you are doing

hairymclary · 30/07/2006 21:34

how long has she been on antibiotics? tbh I don't think there is much you can do if they haven't kicked in yet

fairyjay · 30/07/2006 21:34

If you're going the antibiotic route - which I have on many occasions - ask for some ear drops, as they seem to attack ear infections more quickly than the oral ones.

aww poor little button. My ds used to get ear infections and my gp wouldn't prescribe ab's for them at all it's realy horrible isn't it?
Does she calm down at all if you take her out for a walk in the pram, or in the car?

wrinklytum · 30/07/2006 21:58

Well, they did a thorough exam, listened to chest(clear),examined abdo etc etc.Looked in both ears. She nearly went through roof when looked in left ear and had been "guarding" left side and screaming at slightest touch to ear.The doc couldnt actually SEE any discharge but she was really wriggly (baby, not doc!).So I think everyone presumed it was her ear.Shes on erythromycin as had nasty rash when took amoxycillin before so ? penicillin reaction. If no better will take her to gp in am.Just concerned she may be getting a little dehydrated as has raging temp 39 and tho still weeing its not as much as usual and weather so hot.Tho she is feeding every hour.Trouble is I always feel the GP thinks Im an overanxious mother as dd has had one problem after another since birth and feel ive practically camped outside Drs surgery for past 8 months.DS on other hand was fit as a fiddle...they say you never get 2 the same

Wrinklytum
We all camp out at the Drs. when our children are small.
Ds had several courses of oral antibiotics at one point (although he was probably about 6), but it was the antibiotic eardrops that got rid of the infection finally.
Really feel for you.

hairymclary · 30/07/2006 22:03

wrinklytum, if she still has a high temp despite you giving her calpol and nurofen it may well be worth another trip to a&e. especially if you're worried that she is dehydrating.
They may be able to give her a stronger dose of ab's, or do another check to make sure that's really what it is.

please don't think you're being over-anxious. doctors would rather see a healthy baby than not see a poorly one

donnie · 30/07/2006 22:03

poor you and poor dd wrinklymun - no advice, just lots of sympathy.
