Dp says in every sewage works there is a whole special section with a big grid thing to catch the sweetcorn in and I don't know if he is having me on or not

LOL at "dollup of crap" . Fill yer boots..!!!!

tallmummy · 30/07/2006 20:44

Friends of ours used to buy sacks of fertiliser from the local sewerage works. It was the dry residue left after it had all been treated. They used it to mulch their garden and within a few weeks it was covered in tomato plants!

shhhh · 30/07/2006 20:45

f&z yes I think we are..!! I thought, seen as it's causing probs at it's destination maybe we should "bag it and bin it" as well .

FanjoandZooey · 30/07/2006 20:45

And finally:

From Cheslyn Hay Primary School's Yr 5 trip to the Sewage Farm

"The machines put them into skips.

In the skip also was sweet corn, which the human body doesn't digest well as sweet corn has a tough outer skin ! If you don't chew corn of the cob well, it ends up here!"

Shhh I am truly ashamed of my anti-social sweetcorn eating now it has been pointed out to me. I am probably resposible for about a skip worth's each year

OP posts:
shhhh · 30/07/2006 20:47

But f&z have you ever noticed that the more you chew it and think it's gone it still appears whole....!! How does that happen..??!

FanjoandZooey · 30/07/2006 21:01

I have never actually attempted to eradicate it, shhh, I just swallow it as it comes

see how thoughtless and irresponsible I have been?

I find tinned sweetcorn = ok, fresh corn on the cob = you may as well not have bothered chewing it.

Poo wise that is. My children's nappies were/are testament to that.

Whizzz · 30/07/2006 21:05

can I just say that when I went for a tour round a 'water treatment works' (last job - don't ask) all I remember was the smell and the sweetcorn. It was ages before I could bring myself to eat any....

hub2dee · 30/07/2006 21:11

Ah, but maybe the specific density of sweetcorn causes it to tend to float at a particular level in the slurry IYSWIM, so when the skimmer skims, or the grid blocks, it might be possible at some point to obtain a rather sweetcorn-rich sample. If the grid / skimmer / pool of sh1t was large enough, I supose this might give rise to a magnificent collection of kernels.

Whizzz · 30/07/2006 21:13

No - it was just horrid. No scientific explanation - the grid contained loads of sweetcorn and 'other sundry items' - bleurgh

FanjoandZooey · 30/07/2006 21:17

You do all realise I am now kissing arse to dp to apologise for ever having doubted his sweetcorny revelations?

OP posts:
Whizzz · 30/07/2006 21:20

all you can see in a sewage works is poo, 'sanitary items' and sweetcorn - its horrid

FanjoandZooey · 30/07/2006 21:32

"its horrid"

were you expecting it to be nice?

OP posts:
Whizzz · 30/07/2006 21:41

No but I wasn't expecting to see sweetcorn!

hub2dee · 31/07/2006 08:57

I wonder if watermelon seeds are also a big problem ?

Blandmum · 31/07/2006 08:58

Most tough coated seeds will get through....apple pips are another good example.

misdee · 31/07/2006 09:03

my dd3 loves sweetcorn, especially corn on the cob. i have just changed her nappy and i swear she just shat out a whole corn on the cob. [gross]

hub2dee · 31/07/2006 09:22

Don't bother buying fresh, misdee. Just sterilise for 9 minutes and reuse.

misdee · 31/07/2006 09:39

lol!!!

Legacy · 31/07/2006 09:47

oh well - another reason to buy a mooncup you see...

Blandmum · 31/07/2006 09:48

to catch the sweetcorn????

The mind boggles

Legacy · 31/07/2006 10:06

Haha - er, insertion would be going a bit wrong if it was full of seetcorn - yeurck!

fullmoonfiend · 31/07/2006 10:12

very silly question, which I could google, but...so exactly how nutritious is sweetcorn, given that our bodies can't seem to process it? Should I even be bothering to presuade my kids to eat it?? I love the stuff (but one does suffer a little the next day, LOL)

hub2dee · 31/07/2006 10:17

Lots of the starch it contains can be processed by the body, fullmoon. I think it's just the skin which is tricky. I advise you to continue eating it in moderation.
