Tramadol

Would it be an over reaction to take tramadol for period pain?

I feel like I'm in labour and codydramol hasn't touched the pain, nor has a hot bath.

Can't take anti inflammatories but need something.

Can I take tramadol with paracetamol?

No, but if the pain is that severe you need to see your GP. There are better painkillers for period pains. Maybe a referral to Gynae?

sublimecorpse · 20/01/2014 19:35

Sorry stargirl is that no don't take the tramadol?

I saw the Gp last week who wants me to think about the mirena

Tramadol as an opioid won't give you the best kind of pain relief as it does not reduce inflammation. Have you tried ibuprofen and paracetamol?

Lonecatwithkitten · 20/01/2014 19:44

Sorry saw you can't take anti-inflammatories.

stargirl1701 · 20/01/2014 20:03

No, not an over reaction, sorry. Yes , you could take it but there are far better painkillers for period pains. Take it tonight and see the GP tomorrow.

Can you phone 111 or go to walkin? When I've had awful periods I've sometimes had injections of painkillers, which works amazingly.

LostInWales · 20/01/2014 20:20

It's impossible to know the measure of another persons pain so if it so bad you feel you need it then yes take the good stuff. Also paracetamol will help the tramadol work better and for longer. BUT tramadol + coedine not a good idea unless specifically ok'd by a doctor and there is paracetamol in the co-dydramol so make sure it is out of your system before you put more in.

I would recommend the mirena although it can be a pain at first once it settles it is awesome. I have approximately one period every 6 months and it lasts for a day. It is the best thing ever.

Badvoc · 20/01/2014 20:24

Yes you can take paracetamol with tramadol, in fact it's advisable as it makes it more effective.
However, as pp have said, you need to look at long term solutions rather than opioids each month.
(Nefapam is bloody brilliant btw!)

sublimecorpse · 20/01/2014 21:04

Thanks so much, took the tramadol with the paracetamol and it's finally easing.

If it hadn't helped then walk in centre would have been my next step although I've had periods like this for years so would have felt a bit like I was using up resources for others more in need.

I used to get by on solpadol and ibuprofen or mefanamic acid but can't take them anymore Hmm

Will ask about the meds you mentioned badvoc and see Gp tomorrow.

Goodness, even my thighs are hurting! And I have an awful headache. What a moaning minnie I am this evening!

Will definitely consider the mirena. Have had a copper coil in the past, it it more painful to have the mirena fitted?

I had no pain at all having mine fitted, I think if you relax and concentrate on your breathing it is fine. I am tough as old boots though Grin

Badvoc · 20/01/2014 22:01

Mirena didn't help met all all sadly, but it didn't hurt either going in or coming out.
Nefapam is my new fave drug (that sounds bad doesn't it!?) I had it prior to my gallbladder surgery.
Do ask about it.
