Absolutely no problem to breastfeed straight after. MRI scans don't harm/affect your body in any way. Step away from the internet, there is some nutty information out there Smile

PS If you're still at all unsure, just ask someone to check with the duty radiologist to put your mind at rest.

Unless you have an MRI with contrast (an injection), then there would be no reason not to breastfeed your baby as normal.
Even with the contrast injection, all the evidence is that it is safe to bf as normal.

Can you ask someone on the team to get on touch with the Infant Feeding Specialist at the hospital. This is part of her role.

Yes I've had an MRI and breastfeed as normal without interruption. I don't think anyone even asked about it. I'd already had a CT that day and I can't remember now if bf-ing was asked about then either, and that is a slightly riskier procedure.

Only slight prob I can see is if she is still bf-ing frequently and you have a wait because an emergency bumps you down the queue. Make sure baby comes to the waiting room with you so you can feed just before and as soon as the procedure is over. You don't want to be feeling anxious with rockhard boobs!

But that is a comfort not a safety consideration.

Hope everything goes well tomorrow.

I had MRI scan when DS was 3 mnths old. I rang up to ask whether it was ok to BF afterwards, Because I had contrast injection I was advised to NOT BF for 24 hours. This was 9 years ago so advice may change. Ring up first thing in the morning so if you haven't any expressed milk in store you can get some formula. Then make sure you express every time you feed so you stay comfortable and your supply isn't disrupted.
