Change in periods to heavy & painful after having ds (now 15mo)

Before ds (who is 15mo) my periods were extremely light and probably lasted about 3 days. No cramps or any physical symptoms at all.

Periods returned about 5 months after having ds and were relatively ok (just a little heavier than they used to be; no cramps or anythings) until I stopped bf at 11mo. Since then my periods have been agonising and last about 5 days. Stomach cramps so bad they make me double over, feeling incredibly sick and the bleeding is so heavy that on more than one occasion I have been somewhat caught out ( damn you sleep ) & has necessitated throwing away clothes and sheets Blush

Do periods tend to change that much after having children? I am unsure as to whether or not it would be a waste of time seeing a GP as it's probably just something I need to suck up (along with the max strength painkillers) and get on with. Alternatively if anyone has any good painkilling recommendations (although nothing along the lines of "have another dc!") then please let me know! Grin

I would see your GP asap and ask at that time for a referral to a gynaecologist. Such changes to periods should always be reported so do not put up with it!.

Endometriosis and fibroids can cause such heavy bleeding to arise (endo can cause great pain) so these should be looked for by a specialist. This is a problem outside a GPs remit so do not be fobbed off and seek proper specialised help.

I would also suggest you keep a daily pain and symptom diary from now as this will also give the gynae clues.

Thanks Attila, for the advice, I'll do that from now and make a GP appointment.
