Update on DS's heart murmer - went to the consultant today...

hi, just to let everyone who was so kind when I was worried about my DS know that we had his appointment with the Paediatric Consultant today and everything seems absolutely fine. The murmer is still there but he did some tests and he said that he feels it is an innocent murmer and that actually its very quiet. so I wonder if maybe its calmed down since my doctor first heard it. He doesn't need any further tests or anything and I am so relieved. But the consultant did say I did absolutely the right thing in getting it checked out.
Thanks everyone for all the support, was so worried what with problems with ExP as well but being able to sound off here made a big difference. .

oh, hi Crazy, didn't see this before but we had EXACTLY the same with my DS; took him to the emergency dr one sunday when he had a bad virus, and when the dr was doing the routine check over, and listening to his heart, my blood went cold when he looked up at me and said "does he have any other health problems you know of?" I just knew he'd found something and was terrified, though he was re-assuring about how many heart murmurs are innocent. We had a specialist appt too and it turned out to be innocent, like your DS.

So glad it's all ok and you can just forget about it now! Enjoy the summer with your boy!

Thank you. Poor you, that must have been horrible. You just never expect a heart murmer to be innocent do you? Its almost like someone saying to you "your child had an innocent heart attack" when it happens to you !

Thank goodness for that

Glad it was good news. Apparently the majority are innocent murmurs.

I was told last week that my 3yr 10 month dd may have a heart murmur. Had the chest x-ray done today and an echo appointment is tomorrow and then an ECG in a weeks time along with seeing the consultant paediatrician.

foxinsocks · 26/07/2006 21:13

oh I remember you - thank goodness all is well!

I too have an innocent murmur - most doctors don't hear it, only the really attentive ones so you must have a good and thorough GP that he/she picked it up!

crazychilledmummy · 26/07/2006 21:16

Thanks everyone. I have been grinning from ear to ear all day. And DS bless him has finally learnt to clap his hands after weeks of me trying to get him to do it ! ooh, dear I'm all weepy now !

Charellie, fingers crossed for your DD - let us know how you get on.

foxinsocks - GP is absolutely fantastic. Went to him at 3 months PG because I had bleeding and was worried I had miscarried and he was just so lovely and ever since with DS he's been amazing. Some people are just like angels.

aww that's lovely

I think having a good, supportive GP makes an absolutely MASSIVE difference to a parent of a baby/child. In fact, I would say it's one of my top criteria for coping well with the first couple of years of a child's life.

Having a crap, unhelpful GP can make life incredibly difficult especially as before you have kids you are never at the surgery and after you have them, the receptionists recognise you as you walk through the door!

dd2 was referred to cardio as she has a heart murmur (she was just over 1year at the time) with my dh heart problems it sent us into a bit of a tizz. to hear the words 'soft systolic murmur' was like heaven. several GP's have picked up on since.

glad your ds is ok.

crazychilledmummy · 26/07/2006 21:29

absolutely. there have been times when I would have gone down on my knees and kissed the doctor/midwife/healthvisitor with gratitude.
