C Reactive Protein

I recently went for a general health check up including blood tests. I've now been called back for a further blood test because of the C Reactive Protein in my original blood sample. I got this news from the receptionist, who had no idea what this actually was so, stupidly, I googled it and am now panicking. :-(

The information I have found says that it is an indicator for heart disease and various other serious conditions. It says that it can be caused by infections and inflammations but I didn't have any (known) health problems when I went for the test so does that means it's some hidden, undiagnosed problem?

Can anyone explain further or put my mind at rest? Is there anything innocuous that it could be? It's a couple of weeks til my next blood test and then I'll have to wait for the results so, at best, it's going to be a few weeks until I actually see a doctor and can discuss what it all means. I'm a worrier so don't want to spend the next few weeks panicking if it (hopefully) might not be something serious.

..Try not to panic crp is used as an infection marker in the blood ...how high was it .It can be raised because of infection or inflammation anywhere in the body . If the rest of your results are ok then I would not to worry to much .

Thanks. I don't actually know how high it was - All the receptionist said was that the doctor had looked at the results from my blood tests and, because of the CRP in my blood, had decided to do another test for that, (presumably to see if it was a temporary glitch due to an infection or an ongoing problem).
