Sugar debate

Does anyone know which is worse for you?
Regular baked beans or low sugar ones?
Just as an example. I've always bought regular as I think the extra stuff put in to make low sugar taste better is actually worse for you.
Same with low fat yoghurt.
Is this true?

I know for a fact low fat yoghurts are worse by far! That is all I know Grin

I can't remember exactly why though!

I also know babies aren't allowed any low fat etc stuff and they're allowed the good stuff! Smile

I think low fat yogs have a ton of sugar added.
But I think low sugar stuff has a ton of fake sweeteners added. I don't know what's worse - sugar but in moderation or sweeteners?

Apparently sweeteners can have the same effect on blood sugar as real sugar can, so although fewer calories, they still cause insulin reactions and encourage your body to store fat. Plus the unknown effects of those chemicals on your body, I'm happier with sugar than sweeteners in drinks, sauces etc.

Full fat is also better for you as the fat makes you feel satisfied whereas low fat products are bulked out to try and make them seem more luxurious in the mouth, but without the satisfying effect of fat on the appetite, you're still hungry and end up eating more.

I'm a firm believer in butter over marg, sugar over chemicals and keeping things as real as possible.

Also some vitamins and minerals are fat soluble so without the fat you don't get the full benefit of the goodness in dairy produce.

Have they changed the recipe for Heinz - I gad some last week and they were bland and sweet. Make your own. Buy plain yoghurt and add stewed or fresh/frozen fruit...it will always be better.

Thanks lynda that's always been my philosophy too but have started to question it with all this sugar info in the news.
Sounds tasty snowdown but I have 3 under 3 so not even time to breathe some days! Might try to muster up some fruit purees for yoghurt though - but the DDs love the pots so much not sure how I'd replicate/compete with Mr Petit Filous!

My dcs have a mashed banana, or mashed raspberries defrosted in the microwave with a drizzle of maple syrup or honey - it's dead quick. Still sweet but more nutritious - no fillers or heavy processing.
