Horrible pain - new mirena

I've had it in five weeks now and my check up is next Friday. I've got awful pain today in my lower abdomen, back, top of legs - similar level to the days after I had it put in.

I've had on and off light bleeding most days. None today.

Paracetamol and ibuprofen having little effect.

Any ideas how long it might last?!

I had a similar experience...a sharp stabbing pain and a scan revealed it was in the cervix. It had to be removed. I'd not wait until next Friday personally. It's possibly not providing any contraceptive effect either

Ha. Not feeling up to needing contraception much!!

Do you think I should see someone today then? Eek. Would it need a scan? I'd struggle to manage DCs today.

Can you feel the strings? Mine went through the wall of the womb - though that's very rare. I would ring your GP and see if they want to check it out.

Yes, I'll ring. Mirena expert not in today though. Thanks.

You don't need an expert. A GP can make a referral for a scan and yes I think you need one

GP I spoke to said 'it's to be expected' and it's fine to wait until next week.

It's less painful this afternoon. But was awful earlier!

FAQ ABOUT MIRENA

This is what manufacturer says Some women may experience cramping or pain, bleeding and/or dizziness during and right after Mirena (levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system) is placed. Tell your healthcare provider if your cramps are severe. If these symptoms last for more than 30 minutes, let your healthcare provider know. Mirena may not have been properly placed and your healthcare provider should examine you

I think your GP is being a little careless
