I am sick to death that every time I shave my bikini line - I have that awful "itchy & scratchy" feeling for days afterwards!!

I've tried waxing ( never again ) and really don't like the creams.

How do I shave and not have the annoying after effects !!

Thanks

When I have to, I use those electric, rip them out things, (Epilady) - haven't used it for ages! BUT, BIG BUT, when they grow back a few of them grow back under the skin. BTW, only attempt this after several glasses of wine.

Rub with a loofah or mit before shaving and everyday in the shower - is just where you don't exfoliate and the hairs grow back and can't come straight out.

Braun does a shave and spae thing sort of like a minge hairclipper - you can shave round the bits you want and just trim the rest - save nearly cutting your bits off whilst crouched over the loo!!

Try my drastic solution if you dare!
I am dark haired and very hairy. About 10 years ago I shaved the whole lot off and after the initial shock have not looked back. The trick is to shave EVERY DAY . So long as it does not get a chance to grow and get bristly I have found it to be a perfect solution, one my dh seems to appreciate too.
Warning , I found it a bit itchy/spotty for a few weeks but after that was fine and is now no problem to "maintain".
I have comvinced acouple of friends to try it and they loved it too.
please do not confue this with a one off shaving - murder when it regrows. I repeat, the trick is to do it every day.

that's my point drastic measure .....
It reminds me when I was shaved when I had my section and I think it's the regrowth that causes the itchy problems.....

Not sure about the "shave it all off" approach - in our house we have no shame and walk around with no clothes on at bath time and bed time.

Not too sure how I could explain this to the kids ( aged 10 and 8 ) ...
The reply "your Dad loves it" might create even more questions

I have had a couple of permanent laser sessions (pregnant at the moment so haven't had any for 9months or so) but they did decrease the hair volume noticably. It is incredibly painful to have done but I look forward to the 'not having to do anything about it again' for both underarms and bikini line.
It is really expensive but I'm generally a low maintenance so I figure the costs balance out a bit.

I have the same problem and having tried both shaving and waxing, swore I'd never do either again. I use a cream hair remover. It doesn't hurt at all, takes 5 min. and grows back without being itchy. The secret is to wash off the cream with COLD water. If you use warm or hot water, it opens up your pores and gets into your skin and irritates it.
Udar, which laser type did you have? I'm thinking of trying it.

I don't think the creams take it off close enough for my liking. Currently at 29 weeks pregnant I can't see it so was adopting the Twiglett approach although self-conscious when taking DS swimming. But then got DH to give me a number 3 with his hair clippers. Think will make him do this again as birth approaches to reduce mess afterwards.

PipBeckett · 04/03/2004 09:49

I agee with drasticmeasure, sort of.

I use a lady shaver in the shower but instead of shaving upwards for a really close shave, I shave downwards which trims everything nicely without making it stubly. Once a week is usually enough to keep things in check. Much easier to cope with the aftermath of birth. Also it leaves enough hair to not make it look daft. Try Johnsons baby softwash afterwards as well. It keeps the moisture in better.

Would definitley recommend. Hubby got used to it after a little while and now prefers it!!

Shave in the same direction as the hair grows, ie.down!

It is almost as smooth as against the hair, at least it looks ok....and girls trim the length while your at it please, your men will appreciate it !!!!!!!!

Trimmers are best for this....but be careful!
