Feeling a bit scared.

I have had pain on and off in/around my armpit/shoulder for ages. Sometimes it makes my breast ache and other times it radiates down my arm and makes my fingers go tingly. I went to the dr about it this time last year and she had a good feel around and found no lumps or bumps. She prescribed some anti-inflammatories and thought it was probably wear and tear of my shoulder causing some nerve pain.
I took the tablets and wasn't really sure whether they helped or not as the pain/ache wasn't constant, it was only there sometimes.
In the last couple of months the pain has got worse. I have a constant ache in my whole shoulder joint and it often makes the side of my breast ache too. It still sometimes goes down my arm into my fingers and does feel then like something pressing on a nerve.
As you can imagine I am constantly examining myself and always feeling around to see if I can find a point where I can press and it hurts more. So far this has proved fruitless. However, the other night I was laying in bed with my arms folded up above my head. I was absent-mindedly feeling around in my armpit and I found quite a large lump. I have to stick my armpit right up in the air to feel it, you cannot feel it with my arm in a normal position. It does not hurt to press it but after I have finished pressing it, my armpit and shoulder ache.
Obviously now I am terrified that it is something sinister. I am finding it hard to think of anything else. I have managed to get a drs appointment for today at 9.50. Don't know why I'm posting really, just needed to tell someone. I haven't told dh about the lump yet, I don't want to worry him unneccessarily. He knows about the pain and thinks I'm just going to the dr because it's getting worse.

I guess there's no-one around :( Leaving in 10 minutes. I feel really on edge. Keeping my fingers crossed it is something harmless.

Sorry one hand typing on I phone. Exactly like you decribed. I had three months of daily physico, so please try not to worry to much it could be something like I had.

Do you do weights?

AbbyLou · 03/01/2014 09:40

Still here barbie, thanks for your comments. Just waiting to see the dr now. Your last post did make me chuckle though - the thought of me doing weights! I am very unfit and the only weight I lift is my wine bottle! Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I don't know what this could be - but just wishing you luck!

Hopefully something and nothing :)

Well I'm out. I feel so relieved! The dr was fab. He thoroughly examined me and explained all he was thinking. He felt the lump and said it's in my muscle. He believes it is caused by poor posture ( too much time spent bending over tables at small children and hunched over a laptop!) he said the muscles in my shoulder are working against each other to try and rectify the problem. He is sure there is nothing sinister (gave me aquick breast exam as well for good measure) and has referred me for physio. Oh god I feel so relieved, thanks so much for your replies.

That's a relief! Sounds like you did the same injury to yourself as I did! Bloody painful isn't it?

KurriKurri · 03/01/2014 11:10

Hi Abby -I had similar sounding pain to you in my shoulder, and it was making me utterly miserable, anti inflamms didn't help, so I was referred for physio.

The physio showed me with models of the shoulder structure etc exactly what was going on in there, she gave me exercises to do at home which I did religiously and the improvement was amazing - the pain went completely, now a few years later if I get a little twinge I do my exercises and it settles straight away.

So I hope you have similar success - the main message is do stick to the exercises - you have to get into a routine and do them several times a day, but they work and its worth it. Good luck Smile

Another thing I found helpful, just to relax my whole body and stop me tensing up with pain, was to have massages, - they made me feel great, but I realise they are not everyone's cup of tea!
