How soon did your doc increase the dose for you?

I've got 50mg and been on it for 2.5wks. Initial help has really tailed off now. Will she up the dose next week when I go for a review or do I have to wait longer?

Felt initial relief within 1wk of starting them, now im back at work im struggling again (though not as bad as before).

Hi there,

If you are due for a review next week then I imagine it's more than likely your GP will pop you up to 75mg or 100mg. I'm a Community Psych Nurse and we tend to increase sertraline in 50mg doses every couple of weeks. You can go up to 200mg but imagine your GP will try you on a lower dose to see if that's effective as no point over medicating you :)

Normally anti-Ds take a good few weeks to be therapeutically effective (and at the same time most side effects will wear off in the first few weeks) so am pleased to hear that you are already finding it helpful.

Best wishes!

Thanks Under

How much effect should I expect to see with the sertraline ? Should I able to feel normal or expect to still have some anxiety / depression symptoms to manage?

Thanks

Just remember 'normal' people feel anxious and depressed occasionally too, and you may still feel those things, but how you cope with them is the key. My life isn't any better than it was before I took antidepressants, but at least I can deal with it now.

Sertraline 150mg is what I'm on now, up from the initial dose of 100mg. I think I've been taking it for about 2 years now?

Hello!

I've been on 50mg for 6 weeks. The GP wants to increase my dose to 100mg next week.

Exactly what Yank said - you will still have good and bad days (like all of us) but the hope is that the anti-d will help you manage things a little better. It should hopefully give you the foundation to then go on and tackle anything that might be happening in your life that may be contributing to your low mood and anxiety also (i.e. social stressors).

Meds have a very important role to play but aren't everything and it might be worth looking at psychological interventions (online CBT or mindfulness stuff) just to add another type of intervention and help you get back on track. Always go back to your GP for support/advice though if you need it, always important to access help :)

Staying at 50mg. Looks like the full effects mightn't be showing yet. Another review next month.

Hope things do get better than where they are now.
