Does anyone know about/have a good link to safe amounts of painkillers?

I have a tooth abscess and am in a lot of pain.
I have ibruprofen and co-codamol.

The ibruprofen 400g say 3 in 24 hours. When I was prescribed these the pain was more manageable.

The co-codamol is 500mg/8mg
I keep googling but not thinking straight.

What is the safest way to manage these for maximum relief?

You can take 4 doses of the co-codamol in 24 hours.

So you can take 7 doses of pain relief in total in 24 hours, does that make sense.

Thanks invisible. 7 doses in 24 hours seems ok. That's something every 3.5 hours which I think is manageable.

You may also find that the co-codamaol 500mg/8mg is simply not enough. That is the dosage you can buy over the counter anyway. If it is not helping there are slightly stronger combinations that you can buy after speaking with the pharmacist (think about 12mg codeine/500mg). Otherwise Dr has 15/500 or 30/500 as a prescription. You have my sympathy hope you have some relief very soon.

Hope you feel better soon. There are also some ointments you can apply to the tooth itself. I often apply anbesol liquid which is really for moth ulcers but does help, but there is another kind I forget the name but it is for toothache. I Ian not sure how these combine safely with other drugs but i think you may be able to combine them safely. If not sure ask pharmasist.

I'm not a doctor - but have been advised that you can take max doses of both paracetamol and ibuprofen simultaneously.

the important thing is not to go over on either, especially not on the paracetamol.

Try to get hold of some Paramol to ease the pain until you can see your dentist/doctor for something on prescription.

It contains dihydrocodeine, so is a stronger OTC painkiller than co-codamol.

Hope you feel better soon.

Rinsing with warm water and/or holding warm cloth over painful area helps relieve abscess, and it can be useful to put Sensodyne toothpaste near it, or Oil of Cloves if you have some. I've never found painkillers sufficiently strong at a safe dose for tooth problems.
