Lump in thigh

I have a lump in my outer thigh - about halfway down my upper thigh, roughly wear the outer seam of my thigh is when sitting (have just felt it!). It is a firm but soft lump about 1/2 to 1 inch wide. I am fairly big and have big thighs but it is not on a 'wobbly fatty' area and it is not 'just under the skin' or moving independently (it not a cyst or boil, for example) - I can feel the top edge of it, but not feel it a whole independent 'unit', IYSWIM. It is generally not painful or inflamed but if I fiddle or feel it for too long, the area feels tender and a bit 'dead leggy', if that makes sense?!

I have been aware of it for a few months, and as far as I can tell it has not changed (or got bigger, at least) but it just being there is bothering me. Should I get it seen or just keep an eye on it for a bit longer...?

Thanks in advance, MPD

It's probably nothing to worry about and is just a lipoma or something like that, but you should always get these things checked out ASAP.

Hi

I found a lump in my thigh in 2006 similar to how you describe it...I went to the doctors and was given a blood test which came back normal, I then had an ultrasound on it , and it was nothing sinister, they basically put it down to being a lump of fatty gristle, they didn't really want to remove it for cosmetic reasons.... It doesn't bother me as such but if I prod it a lot it does get abit sore

I would say pop along to GP just to put your mind at rest .

I have many of these lumps in my thighs, stomach, lower back and on my forearm. Mine are lipomas. Some people are more susceptible to them and it can run in families.

Go and see your GP though as all lumps should be checked out x
