Thrush since birth of dd...

A week after giving birth to dd (now almost 8 months) I got thrush -diagnosed by the doctor. I had never had it before. Now I get it every month with my period. I presume this is because of hormonal changes. I haven't been back to the doctors as I'm not sure if there is any point but it's getting me down a bit to be honest and affecting my sex life with dp. Has anyone got/ had this problem? Does it go away or will I get thrush once a month for ever?
Ps. I follow all the advice from nhs website re. Washing, using cream etc. I haven't tried tablets or pessaries and I'm still bf. Any other potential methods to get rid would be appreciated too.

Yes!

My dd is 8 months. I BFed but at my first period a few weeks ago I randomly got thrush. It's quite common apparently. Oh the joys of yet more weird bodily shite to contend with!

I just powered through and it's gone now, I presume, until next month...

Clotrimazole is safe as pessary in pregnancy and breastfeeding. If it keeps coming back then I would say try some treatment otherwise you will be stuck in this cycle for a while. I do feel your pain as I have had the same problem, may find you need a repeat of pessary and to treat oh to totally get rid. Hth x

Is it hormones hatbobble? Just with it being postnatal?

Oh blippy it makes me feel a bit better its not just me, I didn't realise it was common. I don't want this happening every month indefinitely. Guess I better go to the doctors...

Yes, hormonal. Trouble is, thrush just thrives in the vagina and is hard to shift. Do see your GP because you'll still be entitled to free prescriptions. The cream is good for external itching but the pessaries will get to the root of the problem much higher up.

GPs are very keen on the one-off dose pessaries but for stubborn thrush it can be better to have several days' worth.

It's such a horrid condition but usually easily treated. Please see your GP.

Hi - I got this with my first few cycles after giving birth. Also breastfeeding and I think it was my hormones kicking in again. I used pessaries (safe when bf'ing) never came back after second period.
Good luck

I had this too! I found being very vigilant with a topical cream at the slightest sign of an itch and also switching to a mooncup (switched for Eco reasons but had the massive bonus of reducing thrush and abolished ver painful cramps!) really really helped. Good luck, it's a bugger!

Another poster has posted in chat about this
I made a suggestion to get checked for group strep b
you could have had it at the beginning of your pregnancy and it was overlooked some pregnant women carry it and then it stays with you after wards most women take antibiotics at the beginning of pregnancy for it but it is known to cause constant thrush.
