my little boy fell in a river today (long story). The river was pundgent. muddy, algy, crap - just fowl.

Anyway the saga is over now. But tonight my brother told me I should take him to the doctors as he may have swollowed some! (doctors shut until monday - so it would mean casulty!!)

surely he will be fine? not sure if I am being too laid back.

what do you think?

There is a disease-Weil's Disease-which can be spread by rats urinating in rivers. Perhaps you could ring A and E and see what they say?

Squarer · 21/07/2006 21:07

I think you're being completely sane.
Imagine your alternative... turning up in A&E with your breathless story of how he fell in a muddy river. Right, and whats the matter with him then Mrs Emily05. Uhm, nothing really. Can you imagine their faces!

Twiglett · 21/07/2006 21:07

I think he's probably over-reacting

but then it isn't my DS tbf

CaptainCavemansMummy · 21/07/2006 21:08

You could try ringing NHS direct? 0845 4647

Whizzz · 21/07/2006 21:10

Personally I wouldn't ring unless he looks/feels unwell

PrettyCandles · 21/07/2006 21:10

If he gets ill/vomits/diarhoea/temperature/sore throat/rash etc over the next few days, then I would be inclined to take him to GP or A&E immediately, and explain about him falling into the river. Otherwise I think I'd be as laid-back as you, and take it as just one of those things.

Weil's disease starts as flu-like symptoms, and I think the incubation period is a few days.

IF your ds develops flu-like symptoms (temp, shivery, achey, headache etc) then take him to docs and say that he fell into a river x days ago and that he could have been exposed to Weil's.

He should be fine but if he develops these symptoms you need to get him seen asap as there can be serious consequences of not getting Weil's treated. HTH
